Combined effects of nanoparticles and ultrasonic field on thermal energy storage performance of phase change materials with metal foam

Wei Cui et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel method to enhance the performance of thermal energy storage (TES) system with phase change materials (PCMs) by adding TiO2 nanoparticles, metal foam, and applying ultrasonic field. The results showed that TiO2 nanoparticles and ultrasonic field positively improved the TES rate but negatively reduced the TES efficiency. Considering the relationship between TES rate and TES efficiency is important in designing TES systems.

Photo-to-thermal conversion and energy storage of polyethylene glycol/copper sulfide composite PCMs

Yanfang Dong et al.

Summary: By introducing copper sulfide into polyethylene glycol, researchers successfully prepared PEG/CuS composite phase change materials with excellent photo-to-thermal conversion function. Experimental results showed that adding 2 wt% PVP can improve the stability of the composite PCMs, while CuS nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed in the PEG. Thermal performance testing revealed that the composite PCM has excellent melting enthalpy, with a high photo-to-thermal conversion efficiency of up to 87.36%.

Photothermal properties and photothermal conversion performance of nano-enhanced paraffin as a phase change thermal energy storage material

Ruitong Yang et al.

Summary: The addition of nanoparticles decreases the transmittance of nano-enhanced paraffin while a small rise in transmittance occurs with temperature increment. ZnO and CuO nanoparticles can improve the thermal conductivity of nano-enhanced paraffin. CuO/paraffin can absorb more solar energy, and the optimal photothermal performance can be achieved by adjusting the nanoparticle volume fraction.
