Aluminum dispersed bamboo activated carbon production for effective removal of Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride antibiotics: Optimization and mechanism study

Amel Guellati et al.

Summary: The central composite rotatable design of response surface methodology was used to optimize the preparation of aluminum dispersed bamboo activated carbon, resulting in a maximum Cip adsorption efficiency of 93.6%. The independent variables affecting the adsorption efficiency were found to be AlCl3 concentration, activation temperature, and activation time.

Carboxylic acids production and electrosynthetic microbial community evolution under different CO2 feeding regimens

Paolo Dessi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that continuous CO2 sparging achieved higher acetic acid production and coulombic efficiency in microbial electrosynthesis, while intermittent CO2 sparging resulted in higher butyric acid production. Microbial community analysis and cyclic voltammetry results showed that different microbes played distinct roles in acid production processes.

Effects of phenol on extracellular polymeric substances and microbial communities from aerobic granular sludge treating low strength and salinity wastewater

Qiulai He et al.

Summary: The impact of phenol on aerobic granular sludge was investigated in terms of biological phosphorus removal and microbial community structures. Elevated phenol concentrations not only stimulated biological phosphorus removal but also enhanced the production of extracellular polymeric substances, maintaining the structural stability of the granules.

Insights into the simultaneous nitrification, denitrification and phosphorus removal process for in situ sludge reduction and potential phosphorus recovery

Qiulai He et al.

Summary: The study showed that an SNDPR system operated in an alternating anaerobic/aerobic/anoxic mode can effectively remove COD, TP, NH4+-N, and TIN, enhance the bioactivity and biomass density of inoculated sludge, and maintain stable amounts of EPS with a stable PN/PS ratio. Additionally, the system exhibited a low observed sludge yield and a maximum anaerobic phosphorus release, providing opportunities for further phosphorus recovery. The SNDPR system not only deserves attention for in situ sludge reduction and potential phosphorus recovery, but also for its reliable and stable wastewater treatment performance.
