Adsorption capacity of composite bio-modified geopolymer for multi-component heavy metal system: optimisation, equilibrium and kinetics study

Cordelia Nnennaya Mama et al.

Summary: Industrialisation and urbanisation have led to the deposition of toxic waste and metalloids in the environment. Therefore, the use of efficient and eco-friendly materials for the adsorption of toxic metals is crucial. In this study, biocomposites were synthesised from bio-treatment of geopolymer using an anionic biopolymer. These biocomposites were found to be effective as biosorbents for the removal of Cu, Fe, and Zn in a multi-component system. The optimized process parameters and various characterization techniques confirmed the suitability and performance of the biocomposites.

Adsorption behaviour of simulant radionuclide cations and anions in metakaolin-based geopolymer

Xiaobo Niu et al.

Summary: Geopolymers are considered promising materials for radioactive waste disposal, with metakaolin-based geopolymers showing high capacity to immobilise cationic radionuclides. However, they do not have the ability to incorporate anionic radionuclides, and the adsorption capacity varies depending on the source of metakaolin. Cs+ uptake occurs through one-to-one exchange with K+ in MK-GP.

Design and modeling of the decolorization characteristics of a regenerable and eco-friendly geopolymer: Batch and dynamic flow mode treatment aspects

Sibel Tunali Akar et al.

Summary: This study synthesized metakaolin based geopolymer (MKBG) as a promising adsorbent for Basic Blue 7 (BB7). By developing response models using a Box-Behnken design (BBD) and numerical optimization, optimal parameters for BB7 removal by MKBG were determined. The pseudo-second-order model accurately predicted the BB7 adsorption kinetics on MKBG, while the Langmuir model described equilibrium data, confirming monolayer and homogeneous adsorption.

Copper Adsorption on ZIF-8/Alumina Hollow Fiber Membrane: A Response Surface Methodology Analysis

Dayang Norafizan Awang Chee et al.

Summary: In this study, the adsorption of copper(II) ions on ZIF-8 membrane was investigated using a central composite design and response surface methodology. The optimal conditions for maximum removal were determined as initial concentration of 100 mg/L, adsorbent dose 29.93 mg, and solution volume 40 mL. The adsorption mechanism of copper(II) onto ZIF-8 membrane was best fitted to the Freundlich isotherm.
