Optimal production and financing strategies for capital-constrained closed-loop supply chain under risk aversion

Xiaodong Xia et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the optimal production and financing strategies for a closed-loop supply chain consisting of a capital-constrained original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and a risk-averse authorized remanufacturer (RM). The research findings suggest that different financing strategies have different advantages for the OEM depending on the degree of capital scarcity, and the debt financing strategy is more environmentally friendly compared to the equity financing strategy. The study provides valuable theoretical references and practical guidance for the OEM in making rational financing strategy selections in the CLSC system.

Optimal Policy for Remanufacturing Firms with Carbon Options under Service Requirements

Junfei Ding et al.

Summary: This paper examines the procurement management of carbon financial instruments and production decisions for an emission-dependent remanufacturing firm under service requirements. Carbon emission options are introduced to hedge risks for the firm, and a portfolio contract is shown to be more beneficial compared to other contracts, although high service requirements may lead to profit loss. Extensions to variable product quality, stochastic yield rates, and carbon price volatility show how they affect the firm's performance.

Coordination of a supply chain with Nash bargaining fairness concerns

Zhong-Ping Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of fairness concerns on channel coordination and contract mechanisms in a dual-channel supply chain. By developing a game-theoretic utility model, the study finds that fairness preferences can affect wholesale prices, buy-back contracts, and revenue-sharing contracts. The study shows that fairness concerns of channel members can enhance supply chain performance to some extent.

Fairness concerns and extended producer responsibility transmission in a circular supply chain

Zhi Liu et al.

Summary: Extended producer responsibility (EPR) is a policy tool that holds manufacturers accountable for recycling and remanufacturing their end-of-life products. This study explores the fairness concerns that arise when manufacturers pass on the responsibility to retailers through price markup. The findings show that a win-win situation can be achieved if manufacturers consider retailers' fairness concerns when determining wholesale prices and if retailers set lower prices to fulfill part of the upfront investment for EPR.

Optimal production and financing portfolio strategies for a third-party remanufacturing supply chain with capital constraint

Yongming Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper examines the optimal production and financing portfolio strategies in a supply chain consisting of a risk-averse remanufacturer and a capital-constrained OEM under different financing strategies. The study finds that the most favorable financing strategy for third-party remanufacturing depends on the remanufacturer's risk aversion, with partial delay-in-payment with bank loan becoming more preferable as the risk aversion intensifies. The OEM prefers pure bank loan strategy, while the remanufacturer and the supply chain prefer partial delay-in-payment with bank loan strategy.

Strategic management of product recovery and its environmental impact

Zhe Wang et al.

Summary: This paper explores the strategic management of product recovery through a model of a monopoly manufacturer, characterizing four different product recovery strategies portfolios based on profitable trade-offs. It analyzes how different revenue and cost parameters influence optimal production and recovery decisions, as well as economic profits. The environmental impact of implementing product recovery management is evaluated using a product life-cycle assessment approach, determining the conditions under which it can lead to a better environmental impact.

Environmentally responsible closed-loop supply chain models with outsourcing and authorization options

Zhangwei Feng et al.

Summary: This paper studies third-party remanufacturing in a closed loop supply chain by developing game models and considers the impact of green consumer behavior and environmentally responsible behavior on the manufacturer's strategy. The research finds that when there is a significant preference gap between consumers for new and remanufactured products, both the manufacturer and the third-party remanufacturer prefer authorization; however, in the case of high environmental cost, it is difficult for them to select the same remanufacturing strategy.

Financing a risk-averse manufacturer in a pull contract: early payment versus retailer investment

Chen Yang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on a two-level supply chain with a pull contract, investigating retailer's early payment (EP) financing and retailer investment (RI) financing for a capital-constrained manufacturer. The results show that the manufacturer can achieve higher utility with moderate risk aversion, while the retailer is worse off with higher risk aversion. Additionally, there is a parameter region where RI outperforms EP for the manufacturer, retailer, and total supply chain.

Zhixuan Lai et al.

Summary: This paper examines the financing strategy of manufacturers and coordination contract designs in a green supply chain, finding that different financing decision preferences affect the choice of financing methods. Additionally, it is revealed that cost-sharing and quantity discount contracts can achieve supply chain coordination, with lower supplier unit production costs leading to a greater willingness to accept higher cost-sharing ratios and quantity discount rates.

Third-party remanufacturing mode selection for a capital-constrained closed-loop supply chain under financing portfolio

Yongming Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of capital constraint and financing behavior on OEM's preference for outsourcing and authorization modes in third-party remanufacturing. It shows that under a financing portfolio, the OEM's preference shifts from outsourcing to authorization, while the TPR's preference shifts in the opposite direction. In general, authorization mode is beneficial for the total profit of the supply chain when the OEM is not capital-constrained, but outsourcing mode is more favored by the supply chain under a financing portfolio unless remanufacturing is highly profitable.
