Cluster analysis to validate the sustainability label of stock indices: An analysis of the inclusion and exclusion processes in terms of size and ESG ratings

Summary: This study examines the inclusion and exclusion criteria of sustainability indices and compares them with conventional indices. The results indicate that sustainability level and company size influence the selection process in both sustainability and conventional indices. Additionally, cluster algorithms reveal differences between the inclusion and exclusion processes of sustainability indices and conventional indices. The findings validate the use of the sustainability label for certain indices but also suggest the need for further differentiation.

Summary: Since the financial crisis, regulators have emphasized the importance of institutional investors taking their governance responsibilities seriously. The UK introduced the Stewardship Code to enhance engagement between institutional investors and UK listed companies. This study analyzes the content of Stewardship Statements from 81 asset managers, finding support for both the ownership and stewardship role, as well as significant variations in practices pointing toward different competitive strategies.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between SRI and conventional pension funds in terms of investment decisions, ESG criteria integration, and ethical essence. Findings suggest that conventional funds are influenced by SRI funds in integrating ESG firms, but SRI funds maintain higher ESG standards and ethical purposes without affecting performance, and ESG integration into conventional funds evolves over time.

Does Benefit Corporation Status Matter to Investors? An Exploratory Study of Investor Perceptions and Decisions

The results suggest that investors perceive the information in BC disclosures as reliable and valuable, potentially impacting the performance of BCs as publicly traded companies.
