Container flow template planning in seaport railway terminal with on-dock rails

Baicheng Yan et al.

Summary: This article studies the transfer flow template planning problem in seaport railway terminals and proposes a multi-objective model. The results of the experiments show that the optimized flow template can maximize throughput and stacking imported containers in blocks near the seaside can reduce operation costs and time consumption. Moreover, the location of on-dock rails significantly influences the yard template.

Exploring the governance dilemma of nuclear wastewater in Fukushima: A tripartite evolutionary game model

Lang Xu et al.

Summary: Research shows that the tripartite evolutionary game involving the International Atomic Energy Agency, discharge countries, and Japanese Fisheries Associations has a high degree of interdependence, with the environment-oriented international organization possibly compelling discharge countries to take strict compliance measures. A stable evolutionary equilibrium requires the International Atomic Energy Agency to coordinate the interests of discharge countries and Japanese Fisheries Associations to ensure marine sustainability.

A hybrid model for marine accident analysis based on Bayesian Network (BN) and Association Rule Mining (ARM)

Emre Ozaydin et al.

Summary: In order to ensure maritime safety, it is necessary to study unreported maritime accidents. This study uses Bayesian network and Association Rule Mining methods to analyze data of unreported occupational accidents on Turkish fishing vessels. A network structure and accident occurrence rules are proposed to help analyze the latent factors and requirements for occupational accidents on fishing vessels.

Decision Tree and Logistic Regression Analysis to Explore Factors Contributing to Harbour Tugboat Accidents

Remzi Fiskin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed tugboat accidents using data mining and found that the type of tugboat propulsion is the most important factor influencing the severity of tugboat accidents. The results can help tugboat operators and port authorities enhance their awareness of factors affecting tugboat accidents.

Risk Assessment for Transporting Ammonium Nitrate-Based Fertilizers with Bulk Carriers

Mehmet Kaptan

Summary: This study identified risks related to the transport of AN-based fertilizers through root cause analysis of the M/V Cheshire accident. The relationships between the detected risks and probabilities were quantitatively evaluated using the Bayesian network method, and suggestions to prevent accidents caused by mistakes during the transport of AN-based fertilizers were provided.

Investigation of tugboat accidents severity: An application of association rule mining algorithms

Erkan Cakir et al.

Summary: The study revealed that tugboats aged over 20 years are crucial indicators for serious accidents, with hull/machinery damage and collision type accidents constituting more than half of the total tugboat accidents. Association rule mining showed that four of the five rules for serious accidents are attributed to hull/machinery damage.

Evolutionary game of inland shipping pollution control under government co-supervision

Lang Xu et al.

Summary: This study discusses the evolutionary stable strategies in the context of environmental governance in inland shipping, and how to promote the development of the electric ship industry and the benign development of the inland river environmental governance system. The results show that the improvement of the initial probability and risk preference of the upstream and downstream governments and shipping companies is crucial.

A systematic analysis for maritime accidents causation in Chinese coastal waters using machine learning approaches

Kezhong Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified the importance of different risk factors and critical scenarios in China's coastal waters, with small general cargo ships posing the highest risk. Bad weather conditions often lead to catastrophic accidents, while minor accidents tend to occur in areas with lower traffic density. The research findings can offer valuable guidance for risk prevention and improve the maritime safety management system in coastal waters.
