A dual grafted fluorinated hydrocarbon amine weak anion exchange resin polymer for adsorption of perfluorooctanoic acid from water

Ruichao Xie et al.

Summary: A dual grafted fluorinated hydrocarbon amine weak anion exchange (WAX) polymeric resin (Sepra-WAX-KelF-PEI) was developed for efficient removal of PFOA from water, showing superior performance compared to traditional adsorbents. Adsorption mechanisms involving hydrophobic interaction and electrostatic interaction were clarified through experiments.

Selective analysis of the okadaic acid group in shellfish samples using fluorous derivatization coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

Yohei Sakaguchi et al.

Summary: The Okadaic acid (OA) group is a diarrheal shellfish poison that can accumulate in the midgut glands of shellfish. To prevent foodborne diseases caused by shellfish poison, analysis by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) before shipment is necessary. By using fluorous derivatization coupled with LC-MS/MS, a selective analytical method for the OA group in shellfish samples was developed, ensuring accurate analysis and food safety.

Functional monodisperse microspheres fabricated by solvothermal precipitation co-polymerization

Fenghao Guo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the successful fabrication of monodisperse micrometer-sized poly(methacrylic monomer-divinylbenzene) microspheres containing various functional groups with a yield of over 94% through solvothermal precipitation co-polymerization. The morphology and porosity of the microspheres can be easily tuned by using different binary solvents. The addition of a cosolvent with similar solubility parameters to the functional monomer significantly improves the monodispersity, with tetrahydrofuran achieving a high surface area of over 400 m(2).g(-1).

Fabrication of anti-fouling thin-film composite reverse osmosis membrane via constructing heterogeneous wettability surface

Dandan Chen et al.

Summary: The study synthesized fluorinated polyethyleneimine (FPEI) by introducing perfluoroalkyl groups into a hydrophilic polyethyleneimine (PEI) matrix, creating a heterogeneous wettability surface on reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. The fluorinated membrane exhibited improved anti-fouling properties compared to membranes with purely hydrophilic surfaces, with higher recovery ratios and lower flux decline ratios during filtration of foulants such as bovine serum albumin, humic acid, and dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide. These results suggest that surface modification with FPEI can enhance the fouling resistance of RO membranes.
