Theoretical Approach to Evaluate the Gas-Sensing Performance of Graphene Nanoribbon/Oligothiophene Composites

Ayesha Ashraf et al.

Summary: The interaction mechanism between graphene/nPT composite materials and gaseous analytes CO, NH3, SO2, and NO2 is explored using density functional theory calculations. The change in the highest occupied molecular orbital/lowest unoccupied molecular orbital gap of the composite indicates the change in conductivity upon complexation with the analyte. The computational framework established in this study can be used to evaluate and design gas sensor materials.

Dispersion size-consistency

Brian D. Nguyen et al.

Summary: A multivariate adiabatic connection (MAC) framework is proposed to describe dispersion interactions in a system of non-overlapping monomers. The MAC allows a rigorous separation of induction and dispersion effects by constraining the density to the physical ground-state density of the supersystem. It is found that many-body perturbation theory violates dispersion size-consistency, while random phase approximation-type methods preserve it.

Comprehensive Basis-Set Testing of Extended Symmetry-Adapted Perturbation Theory and Assessment of Mixed-Basis Combinations to Reduce Cost

Montgomery Gray et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the convergence of XSAPT interaction energies and energy components with respect to the choice of Gaussian basis sets. Errors can be reduced using correlation-consistent basis sets and new versions with limited augmentation. The use of Pople-style basis sets may afford good results if a large number of polarization functions are included.

Coupled Cluster Benchmarking of Large Noncovalent Complexes in L7 and S12L as Well as the C60 Dimer, DNA-Ellipticine, and HIV- Indinavir

Corentin Villot et al.

Summary: This work reports the benchmark binding energies of several complexes using a focal point method. The discrepancy in binding energy values between local CCSD(T) and FN-DMC methods for large noncovalent complexes highlights the need for alternative approaches. Furthermore, cheaper computational methods were assessed for their performance and reference data for noncovalent interactions in various complexes were provided.

Interaction Energy Analysis of Monovalent Inorganic Anions in Bulk Water Versus Air/Water Interface

John M. Herbert et al.

Summary: Soft anions exhibit surface activity at the air/water interface, with some showing larger charge-transfer energy at the interface compared to bulk water. However, the contribution of these effects to the surface activity of soft anions is small and cannot fully explain the observed behavior. The short-range solvation structure around these ions at the air/water interface is scarcely different from bulk water, suggesting that changes in hydration structure may not be the key factor in soft anions' surface activity.

Coupled cluster benchmarks of large noncovalent complexes: The L7 dataset as well as DNA-ellipticine and buckycatcher-fullerene

Francisco Ballesteros et al.

Summary: This work reports benchmark binding energies for dispersion-bound complexes, DNA-ellipticine intercalation complex, and buckycatcher-C-60 complex with 120 heavy atoms using a focal-point method based on MP2 and CCSD(T) extrapolated to the CBS limit. The discrepancies between CCSD(T) and fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo methods are substantial for large noncovalent complexes.

Predicting and Understanding Non-Covalent Interactions Using Novel Forms of Symmetry-Adapted Perturbation Theory

Kevin Carter-Fenk et al.

Summary: Non-covalent forces are essential in molecular interactions. Symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT) provides an accurate method to calculate these interactions, decomposing the energy into meaningful components and aiding in the construction of transferable force fields.

Requirements for an accurate dispersion-corrected density functional

Alastair J. A. Price et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors discuss the optimal requirements for the base functional and dispersion correction to accurately account for non-bonded repulsion and dispersion attraction. They emphasize the importance of having a dispersionless, numerically stable base functional with minimal delocalization error, as well as a dispersion correction that includes finite damping, higher-order pairwise dispersion terms, and electronic many-body effects. These criteria are crucial for avoiding error cancellation and obtaining correct results based on accurate physics principles.
