Hydrodynamic slip of alkali chloride solutions in uncharged graphene nanochannels

Amith Kunhunni et al.

Summary: Using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations, this study investigates the effect of concentration and alkali cation types on the hydrodynamic slip of aqueous alkali chloride solutions in uncharged graphene nanochannels. The results demonstrate that the hydrodynamic slip length decreases with increasing salt concentration, with NaCl solution showing the highest reduction.

Molecular dynamics of the interfacial solution structure of alkali-halide electrolytes at graphene electrodes

Jan Dockal et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the interactions between graphene electrodes and various electrolyte solutions. The results indicate that the charge of graphene significantly affects the orientation of water molecules and the distribution of ions differs depending on the solution. Larger ions are attracted to graphene, while the effects on smaller ions may be counterintuitive.

An evaluation of the capacitive behavior of supercapacitors as a function of the radius of cations using simulations with a constant potential method

Antenor J. Paulista Neto et al.

Summary: This study utilized atomistic molecular dynamics with the constant potential method to investigate the electrode-electrolyte interface of electrochemical supercapacitors. The influence of different cation radii on the structural and electrostatic interactions was explored. The results showed that the electrical double layer was affected by the size, hydration layer volume, and cations' mobility.

Ion Adsorption at Solid/Water Interfaces: Establishing the Coupled Nature of Ion-Solid and Water-Solid Interactions

Rahul Prasanna Misra et al.

Summary: Understanding the thermodynamics of ion adsorption at solid/water interfaces is crucial for energy and membrane applications. This study investigates the adsorption of thiocyanate ions at the graphene/water interface, revealing that interactions between water molecules and ions significantly weaken graphene-ion interactions. The theoretical framework developed in this research accurately predicts ion adsorption energies and highlights the importance of ion-solid and water-solid interactions in governing energetics at solid/water interfaces.

The differential capacitance as a probe for the electric double layer structure and the electrolyte bulk composition

Peter Cats et al.

Summary: This theoretical study investigates the differential capacitance of an aqueous electrolyte in contact with a planar electrode, demonstrating that small trace amounts of divalent ions can greatly influence the differential capacitance, while small ions dominate its behavior for high electrode potentials. A new differential capacitance expression is derived from mechanical equilibrium in a planar geometry, emphasizing the importance of the first layer of ions near the charged surface for understanding. These insights can serve as a guide in experiments to better understand the electrolyte-electrode interface and the composition of the bulk electrolyte.

Molecular dynamics simulation study of the effect of a strong electric field on the structure of a poly(oxyethylene) chain in explicit solvents

Sarka Dedicova et al.

Summary: The study reveals that a strong external electric field can alter the conformation of polymer chains, compress coil sizes, promote partial helical structures, and induce changes in solvent-solvent and solvent-polymer hydrogen-bonding structures. However, the solvent-specific effects involved in these changes are not fully understood.
