Steady State Photoisomerization Quantum Yield of Model Rhodopsin: Insights from Wavepacket Dynamics?

Chern Chuang et al.

Summary: In this study, we simulate the nonequilibrium steady state cis-trans photoisomerization of retinal chromophore in rhodopsin. We find that the steady state reaction quantum yield is strongly correlated with the excess energy above the system's crossing point. Furthermore, environment-induced partial internal energy redistribution takes place before the reaction concludes.

Noise-induced coherence in molecular processes

Amro Dodin et al.

Summary: The excitation of molecules by incident incoherent electromagnetic radiation, such as sunlight, is described in detail and contrasted with coherent light effects. The quantum coherences induced by incoherent radiation, relevant to transport processes in nature and technology, are emphasized. Equilibrium and steady state scenarios are discussed, using examples such as simple models, calcium excitation in polarized light, and the isomerization of retinal in rhodopsin, to reveal the qualitative nature of established coherences.

The Lindblad and Redfield forms derived from the Born-Markov master equation without secular approximation and their applications

Chang-Yao Liao et al.

Summary: This paper derives the Lindblad and Redfield forms of the master equation based on the Born-Markov master equation, with coefficients re-evaluated as complex numbers rather than real numbers. Dynamics of two models are studied, showing that different environments may cause small or large distortions in dynamics due to the secular approximation and simplified real coefficients. The effects are discussed by studying the dynamics of multi-level systems in the presence of dissipation.

Environmentally Improved Coherent Light Harvesting

Stefano Tomasi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that enhancing the coupling strength between the system and the environment can amplify coherent efficiency enhancements, rather than suppress them. This result significantly expands the potential systems that could be used to demonstrate coherence-enhanced light harvesting and to incorporate coherent effects into artificial light-harvesting devices.

Observation of Vacuum-Induced Collective Quantum Beats

Hyok Sang Han et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates collectively enhanced vacuum-induced quantum beat dynamics from a three-level V-type atomic system. The subsequent radiative dynamics exhibit superradiant decay rates and collectively enhanced quantum beats. This work is the first experimental illustration of quantum beats arising from atoms initially prepared in a single excited level due to vacuum-induced coupling between excited levels.

Steady-state Fano coherences in a V-type system driven by polarized incoherent light

Suyesh Koyu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of steady-state noise-induced coherences in a three-level V-system pumped by incoherent light, revealing the impact of such coherences on excited-state dynamics and a regime where the coherence-to-population ratio reaches a maximum under certain conditions. The enhancement of Fano coherences due to dephasing is attributed to the suppression of destructive interference by the environment. Additionally, a direct connection between incoherent driving of quantum systems and quantum transport in qubit networks is identified, with potential implications for quantum thermodynamics and biological processes.
