Distribution and possible function of galanin about headache and immune system in the rat dura mater

Kenichiro Shimazaki et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the presence of GAL-immunoreactive cells and nerve fibers in the rat dura mater, suggesting a potential role of GAL in nociceptive transmission or modulation as well as immune mechanisms of the dura mater. GAL was commonly expressed in the cerebral falx and cerebellar dura mater, with co-expression of CGRP-immunoreactivity, and in a substantial proportion of sensory neurons innervating the dura mater in the trigeminal ganglion.

Distribution of alpha-synuclein in the rat cranial sensory ganglia, and oro-cervical regions

Tadasu Sato et al.

Summary: The study revealed abundant expression of alpha-synuclein in sensory ganglia, with co-expression with calcitonin gene-related peptide and transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1. Immunoreactive nerve fibers were found in oral and cervical viscerae, as well as in the upper airway, potentially playing a role in nociceptive and chemosensory transduction.

Parasympathetic neurons in the human submandibular ganglion

Mutsuko Kawashima et al.

Summary: The submandibular ganglion (SMG) contains various neurochemical substances and channel receptors that are involved in the innervation and regulation of the submandibular gland. VIP, TRPV2, and DBH-immunoreactive nerve fibers surround SMG neurons, with differences in neuron size depending on the type of surrounding nerve fibers. TRPV1- and TRPV2-ir nerve fiber profiles are also observed around blood vessels in the human submandibular gland, indicating a potential role in regulating salivary components.
