Summary: In this study, a novel surface coating composed of zein, bioactive glass, and copper-containing bioactive glass was developed by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) to improve the bioactivity and antibacterial properties of stainless steel implants for bone replacement. The coatings exhibited excellent cytocompatibility, maintained pro-osteogenic properties towards progenitor cells, and demonstrated antibacterial activity against common joint pathogens. Additionally, the ability of copper to recruit blood vessels and inhibit bacterial infection was confirmed in vivo, enhancing the therapeutic potential of the coatings for orthopedic applications.

Effect of chitosan reinforcement on properties of hydroxyapatite/silk fibroin composite for biomedical application

Summary: In this study, a biocompatible HAP/SF/CT composite was synthesized using In-situ co-precipitation method. The in-vitro bioactivity, cytotoxicity, and antibacterial effect of the composite were evaluated, showing promising results for potential use in bone tissue engineering. Further in-vivo studies are needed to confirm these findings.
