Hsp70 in Redox Homeostasis

Hong Zhang et al.

Summary: Cellular redox homeostasis is maintained by the balance between generation and elimination of ROS. Hsp70 proteins play a crucial role in mitigating oxidative stress and are involved in various cellular signaling pathways. ROS can directly modify Hsp70 proteins and indirectly modulate their activity and expression through redox-related signaling pathways.

Thiol-based switching mechanisms of stress-sensing chaperones

Kathrin Ulrich et al.

Summary: Thiol-based redox switches have evolved as efficient post-translational regulatory mechanisms that enable proteins to rapidly respond to environmental changes. This review focuses on the thiol-based activation mechanisms of stress-sensing chaperones, which convert into high affinity binding platforms for unfolding proteins under stress conditions. Cells have evolved different strategies to rapidly increase the pool of ATP-independent chaperones upon oxidative stress, providing mechanistic insights into how stress conditions are utilized to convert cellular proteins into ATP-independent holding chaperones.

Impact of Hydrogen Peroxide on Protein Synthesis in Yeast

Cecilia Picazo et al.

Summary: Cells have various mechanisms to respond to stress conditions, one of which is the inhibition of protein synthesis to save energy. Oxidative stress is a common stress condition, and cells use antioxidant systems to protect against oxidative damage. In particular, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) plays a role as a signaling molecule in regulating protein synthesis at different levels.
