Does Approach Influence the Dislocation Rate Following Head and Liner Exchange in Revision Hip Arthroplasty?

Ryan N. Robertson et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of surgical approach on the dislocation rate after revision total hip arthroplasty. The results showed that the direct anterior approach had a higher dislocation rate compared to the direct lateral and posterolateral approaches. Cup position was found to be associated with postoperative instability.

High Offset Stems Are Protective of Dislocation in High-Risk Total Hip Arthroplasty

Jonathan M. Vigdorchik et al.

Summary: The study found that using high-offset femoral stems can reduce dislocation rates after total hip arthroplasty and achieve a greater range of motion before bony impingement occurs. Therefore, in high-risk total hip arthroplasty cases due to spinal stiffness, surgeons should consider using high-offset stems and pay attention to offset restoration.

The Effect of Femoral Head Size, Neck Length, and Offset on Dislocation Rates of Constrained Acetabular Liners

Yaniv Warschawski et al.

Summary: Increasing neck length was associated with lower failure rate in CALs, while larger head size did not lead to lower failure rates. Surgeons should exercise caution when considering larger acetabular shell sizes for CALs.

Outcome of Debridement, Antibiotics, and Implant Retention With Modular Component Exchange in Acute Culture-Negative Periprosthetic Joint Infections

Venkatsaiakhil Tirumala et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the outcomes of DAIR with modular component exchange in acute culture-positive and culture-negative PJI, finding that culture negativity may not be a contraindication to DAIR in patients with acute PJI as the reinfection rates were similar to culture-positive PJI.

Follow-up definitions in clinical orthopaedic research A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

S. S. Ahmad et al.

Summary: This study systematically identified clinical research published in high-impact orthopaedic journals in the last five years to extract follow-up information and deduce evidence-based definitions of short-, mid-, and long-term follow-up intervals. The results provide citable standards for planning clinical studies, suggesting that a short-term study should have a minimum mean follow-up of 30 months, a mid-term study aim for 60 months, and a long-term study aim for 150 months.
