Release of nitrogen, sulfur and chlorine species from coal in carbon dioxide atmosphere

Dominik Schmidt et al.

Summary: In this study, the release of nitrogen, sulfur, and chlorine species from a US-American bituminous coal with high sulfur content was investigated in a CO2 atmosphere using an entrained flow reactor. It was found that the formation and release of these minority species were influenced by temperature and fuel residence time. The experiments showed changes in the concentrations of various gas species at different reactor temperatures, with significant differences compared to pyrolysis in a nitrogen atmosphere.

Nitrogen migration in coal during the chemical looping gasification reduction process using a nickel-based oxygen carrier

Yankun Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the distribution and migration of nitrogen during chemical looping gasification may be influenced by different temperature stages and the addition of an oxygen carrier. Nitrogen primarily exists in both solid and gas phases during low-temperature stages, with the addition of an oxygen carrier at high temperatures benefiting the decomposition of nitrogen precursors.

Hydrogen-rich gas production through supercritical water gasification of chicken manure over activated carbon/ceria-based nickel catalysts

Khosrow Babaei et al.

Summary: The study conducted various tests on supercritical water gasification of poultry manure under different operating conditions, and catalytic experiments were carried out under optimized conditions. The results demonstrated a significant impact of composite catalyst supports on the diversity and quality of products.

Fate of fuel-nitrogen during in situ gasification chemical looping combustion of coal

Jinchen Ma et al.

Summary: The study focused on the nitrogen conversion and distribution characteristics in the two elementary stages of coal conversion during the iG-CLC process. It was found that HCN was the dominant precursor of NOx in iG-CLC, and most NOx precursors were released during coal pyrolysis. The high CO2 concentration and reducing reaction atmosphere in the fuel reactor were found to inhibit the formation of NO.

Techno-economic Assessment of Co-gasification of Rice Husk and Plastic Waste as an Off-grid Power Source for Small Scale Rice Milling-an Aspen Plus Model

Jamilu Salisu et al.

Summary: Inadequate access to electricity in Nigeria has led to the use of alternative energy sources such as diesel and wood combustion in rice mills, contributing to high operating costs and environmental issues. This research proposes co-gasification of rice husks and plastic waste in the presence of CaO for integrated heat and power generation, providing economic benefits and reducing environmental pollution. The system demonstrates cost savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions, supporting the UN's sustainable development goals.

Gasification kinetic modelling of Victorian brown coal chars and validity for entrained flow gasification in CO2

Tao Xu et al.

Summary: The gasification kinetic modelling and prediction model for Victorian brown coal chars were found to be applicable in this study, with limited effect on gasification rate by particle size under 106μm. Maddingley char and Yallourn char showed differences in activation energies and pre-exponential factors during CO2 gasification.

Emission of species of environmental and process concern during simulated oxy-fuel gasification

X. Long et al.

Summary: The study found that in oxy-fuel gasification, tars released during pyrolysis are efficiently destroyed in the hot, char-containing bed, with low emissions compared to conventional gasifiers. The release of S and NH3 depends on fuel composition and operating conditions, with increased CO2 partial pressure, steam, and temperature leading to increased S release and steam increasing N conversion to NH3.

Thermochemical conversion of sewage sludge-derived hydrochars: Volatiles release and char gasification kinetics

Xiaoyuan Zheng et al.

Summary: The study shows that HTC pretreatment is an effective method for converting sewage sludge into energy and the gasification behavior of the samples is influenced by high ash content and limited fixed carbon. The kinetic analysis indicates that the volume reaction model with a chemical reaction order of 1.5 showed high correlation coefficients for all carbonized samples.
