Miaomiao Niu et al.

Summary: This work aims to understand the co-pyrolysis synergy between different biomass and waste tire for high value utilization. Thermal behavior, product yields and characteristics were analyzed to study the influence of biomass species and blending ratios on co-pyrolysis synergistic effect. Jing Bai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microwave pyrolysis characteristics of tobacco stems impregnated with different ammonia sources. The results showed that impregnation of ammonia sources increased the contents of nitrogen-containing compounds (NCCs) and decreased the contents of acid and carbonyl compounds. The introduction of urea improved the yield of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds (NCHs) and nicotine in the bio-oil, while increasing the yield of hydrogen and decreasing the yield of carbon dioxide in the biochar.

Study on microwave-assisted co-pyrolysis and bio-oil of Chlorella vulgaris with high-density polyethylene under activated carbon

Chunxiang Chen et al.

Summary: The microwave-assisted co-pyrolysis of Chlorella vulgaris and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) was studied using activated carbon as a microwave absorbent. The optimal mixing ratio was found to be 1:1, and the addition of 40% activated carbon greatly improved the co-pyrolysis characteristics. The participation of HDPE increased the hydrocarbons and alcohols in the bio-oil, while decreasing nitrogen-containing compounds. The addition of activated carbon further increased the hydrocarbons and reduced the oxygen-containing compounds in the bio-oil.

Pyrolysis of Spirulina platensis, Tetradesmus obliquus and Chlorella vulgaris by TG-FTIR and Py-GC/MS: Kinetic analysis and pyrolysis behaviour

Wenwen Kong et al.

Summary: The pyrolysis characteristics of Spirulina platensis, Tetradesmus obliquus, and Chlorella vulgaris were investigated by various techniques. The elemental and biochemical composition of different microalgae influenced their pyrolysis behavior. The pyrolysis process of the three microalgae could be divided into several stages, and the major reaction occurred at a certain temperature range. Different products and activation energies were observed for each microalgae. The pyrolysis of Spirulina platensis produced more CO2 and compounds containing C=O bonds, while Tetradesmus obliquus and Chlorella vulgaris produced slightly higher levels of hydrocarbons.

Research on the thermochemical conversion utilization of nitrogen-rich microalgae: Two-step catalytic pyrolysis of Nannochloropsis sp over ZSM-5

Liqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the two-step pyrolysis characteristics of Nannochloropsis sp (NCS) over ZSM-5. The results showed that ZSM-5 increased the weight loss and pyrolysis temperature of NCS. Kinetic analysis revealed that NCS pyrolysis followed a one-dimensional shrinking core model, and ZSM-5 decreased the activation energy. Compared to one-step pyrolysis, two-step pyrolysis improved the selectivity of N-heterocyclic compounds, and catalytic two-step pyrolysis reduced product complexity and increased selectivity of olefins, nitriles, and aromatic hydrocarbons.

Summary: This study investigated the nitrogen migration and transformation mechanisms in waste biomass during NH3/N2 torrefaction pretreatment. The effects of torrefaction temperature on fuel properties and structure were evaluated, and subsequent catalytic ammonization pyrolysis was performed to examine the product yield and N-containing compound selectivity. The results showed that NH3 torrefaction was more effective in enhancing N fixation and retarding the release of N-containing volatiles. The use of Co/HZSM-5/HZSM-5 catalysts under an NH3/N2 atmosphere significantly improved the formation of N-containing compounds.
