Mixed-Valence CsCu4Se3: Large Phonon Anharmonicity Driven by the Hierarchy of the Rigid [(Cu+)4(Se2-)2](Se-) Double Anti-CaF2 Layer and the Soft Cs+ Sublattice

Ni Ma et al.

Summary: The study successfully prepared CsCu(4)Q(3) compounds and confirmed their unique layered structure through single-crystal diffraction data, identifying the reason for their low lattice thermal conductivity. By increasing the bond multiplicity, a larger phonon anharmonicity was achieved, resulting in a significant decrease in phonon frequency.

Effects of interfacial diffusion induced infiltration process on the microstructure evolution and interfacial enhancement of CF/ Mg composites

Jiaming Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the interfacial diffusion was utilized as the main infiltration driving force of CF/Mg composites by applying Ni coating on the CFs. The optimal morphology and distribution of Mg-Ni interfacial reaction products were achieved through a combination of CF surface coating and mechanical pressure, leading to enhanced mechanical properties of the composites.

Nb-Mediated Grain Growth and Grain-Boundary Engineering in Mg3Sb2-Based Thermoelectric Materials

Ting Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that Nb does not enter the Mg3Sb2 matrix but forms a wetting layer along the grain boundary, modifying the interfacial energy and accelerating grain growth. Modeling suggests that the grain boundary resistivity appears to be reduced by Nb-enrichment. This study confirms grain boundary scattering in Mg3Sb2 and reveals the potential role of metallic additives in enhancing grain growth and reducing grain boundary resistivity.

Demonstration of ultrahigh thermoelectric efficiency of ∼7.3% in Mg3Sb2/MgAgSb module for low-temperature energy harvesting

Zihang Liu et al.

Summary: Researchers have made significant advancements in thermoelectric materials by adding minor amounts of Cu to the Mg3Sb1.5Bi0.5 system, leading to improved thermoelectric performance and reduced thermal conductivity. Through grain-boundary engineering, the detrimental effects of thermally activated electrical conductivity were successfully eliminated. The fabricated thermoelectric module, when combined with a p-type alpha-MgAgSb-based material, showed promising potential for low-temperature thermoelectric harvesting.

Efficient lanthanide Gd doping promoting the thermoelectric performance of Mg3Sb2-based materials

Jingdan Lei et al.

Summary: Mg3Sb2-based thermoelectric materials show great potential for high thermoelectric performance, but low carrier concentration hinders their development. This study demonstrates that lanthanide Gd can effectively tune the carrier concentration to near optimal levels through doping, while also mitigating grain boundary effects with coarse grain size. The combination of high carrier concentration and suppressed lattice thermal conductivity leads to a maximum zT of 1.55 at 700 K in Mg3.065Sb1.3Bi0.7Gd0.015.
