Strategic Modulation of Target-Specific Isolated Fe,Co Single-Atom Active Sites for Oxygen Electrocatalysis Impacting High Power Zn-Air Battery

Subhajit Sarkar et al.

Summary: In this study, a bifunctional electrocatalyst with target-specific Fe-N-4/C and Co-N-4/C isolated active sites was developed, showing a symbiotic effect on overall oxygen electrocatalysis performances. The dualism of N-dopants and binary metals lowered the d-band centers of Fe and Co in the catalyst, improving the overpotential of the catalytic processes. The Fe, Co, N-C catalyst demonstrated a high areal power density in both liquid and solid-state Zn-air batteries, making it a suitable candidate for air cathode material in ZABs.

Triggering Lattice Oxygen Activation of Single-Atomic Mo Sites Anchored on Ni-Fe Oxyhydroxides Nanoarrays for Electrochemical Water Oxidation

Yunzhen Wu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the tuning of the reactivity of lattice oxygen by anchoring single-atomic Mo sites on Ni-Fe oxyhydroxide nanoarrays, leading to a significant acceleration of the oxygen evolution reaction. Through experimental and theoretical investigations, it is confirmed that the introduction of single-atomic Mo sites enhances the oxidation state of the metal and the metal-oxygen hybridization, resulting in the formation of oxidized ligand holes above the Fermi level.

Temperature prediction of lithium-ion batteries based on electrochemical impedance spectrum: A review

Dezhi Li et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of global electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and aerospace, the prediction of temperature in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has become crucial for preventing fire accidents. The current main method is to use surface temperature sensors, but it is not practical to install sensors at each cell due to cost, space, and weight issues. Therefore, the development of a new method based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has become an urgent problem to be solved. This review summarizes the main methods of using EIS to predict the temperature of LIBs in recent years and discusses the advantages, disadvantages, and future development direction of different methods.

Spectroelectrochemical Analysis of the Water Oxidation Mechanism on Doped Nickel Oxides

Reshma R. Rao et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of doped nickel oxides were investigated using operando UV-vis spectroscopy and time-resolved stepped potential spectroelectrochemistry. The relationship between charging of the oxide and OER kinetics was revealed. It was found that for Ni centers that bind oxygen too strongly, OER kinetics is limited by O-O coupling and oxygen desorption, while for Ni centers that bind oxygen too weakly, OER kinetics is limited by the formation of oxo groups.

Operando Identification of Active Species and Intermediates on Sulfide Interfaced by Fe3O4 for Ultrastable Alkaline Oxygen Evolution at Large Current Density

Qianqian Ji et al.

Summary: This study reports a synergistic hybrid catalyst composed of nanoscale heterostructures of Co9S8 and Fe3O4, which exhibits only a low potential of 350 mV and record stability of 120 h at the 500 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH. The reconstructions of Co9S8@Fe3O4 into CoOOH/CoOx@Fe3O4 and then to complete CoOOH@Fe3O4 are revealed through voltage-dependent soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy and Operando Raman spectroscopy. The completely reconstructed CoOOH acts as the active species and Fe3O4 components prevent the aggregation of CoOOH.

Efficient FeCoNiCuPd thin-film electrocatalyst for alkaline oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions

Shiqi Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a high entropy alloy (HEA) - FeCoNiCuPd - thin film catalyst was reported to exhibit excellent catalytic performance for both alkaline HER and OER. The remarkable HER activity originated from the multiple active sites on the FeCoNiCuPd surface, while the OER activity was attributed to the formation of highly functional (FeCoNi)-oxyhydroxide species on the film surface. The HEA thin film catalyst showed the potential for efficient water-splitting process at low cell voltage and maintained good durability.
