Summary: A series of Gd3+-Eu3+ doped microphosphors with minimal concentration of Gd3+ were successfully synthesized using modified hydrothermal techniques. The photoluminescence emissions of Gd3+ and Eu3+ were observed in the doped and codoped phosphors, and the Gd-doped phosphors showed potential in phototherapy applications. The emission peak intensity of Eu3+ varied with Eu3+ concentrations, and quenching occurred at higher doping level.

Structural, optical spectroscopy and energy transfer features of Tb3+-activated (Y, Gd)F3 nanophosphors for UV-based LEDs

Sushri Sangita Nanda et al.

Summary: Rare earth activated nanofluorides synthesized via hydrothermal route were analyzed for their structures, morphologies, and optical properties. The study observed characteristic emissions from Gd3+ and Tb3+ ions and discussed the energy transfer mechanism leading to enhanced green emission of Tb3+ ions. The high energy transfer efficiency, calculated branching ratio, and quantum efficiency suggest the potential applications of these nanophosphors in UV-excitable phosphors for white LEDs and solid-state green lasers.

Summary: In this study, an approach to enhance the photophysical properties of Er3+-Nd3+-Yb3+ codoped CaTiO3 perovskite phosphors synthesized via solid state reaction technique under 808 nm and 980 nm co-excitation was described. Band gap analysis, Rietveld refinement, and steady rate equations were used to explain the observed frequency upconversion in the developed phosphors. Additionally, fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) based temperature sensing study showed excellent performance over a range of temperatures, with a maximum sensitivity of 10.9 x 10(-3) K-1.
