Efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution coupled with benzaldehyde production over 0D Cd0.5Zn0.5S/2D Ti3C2 Schottky heterojunction

Summary: The novel dual-functional 0D Cd0.5Zn0.5S/2D Ti3C2 hybrid was fabricated to enhance the photocatalytic efficiency for simultaneous water-to-hydrogen conversion and benzyl alcohol-to-benzaldehyde oxidation under visible light illumination. By increasing the contact area and forming Schottky barrier (SB) sites, the hybrid showed improved electron-hole separation and light utilization. Experimental measurements and density functional theory (DFT) calculations supported the efficient performance of the hybrid catalyst in hydrogen evolution and benzaldehyde production.

S-scheme heterostructure based on ultrathin 2D CdS coated W18O49 nanosheets-assembled network for highly-efficient photocatalytic H2 evolution

Summary: By designing a novel step-scheme 2D CdS/W18O49 heterostructure, the problem of severe photo-corrosion and rapid recombination of electrons and holes in ultrathin CdS nanosheets for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution has been solved. The resulting 40 wt% CdS/W18O49 (CW40) exhibits a prominent photocatalytic H-2 production rate and high apparent quantum efficiency, and it can protect CdS from photo-corrosion, showing outstanding stability.
