The role of internet gaming in the association between anxiety and depression: A preliminary cross-sectional study

Summary: The study found that anxiety symptoms have a significant impact on depression symptoms, and the interaction between anxiety and Internet gaming disorder also has a significant impact on depression symptoms. This suggests that Internet gaming plays a dual role in the association between anxiety and depression, and depression prevention and intervention should consider the effects of Internet gaming on anxious gamers.

Summary: This study synthesized evidence from 92 studies and found that the prevalence of depression in individuals with Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) varied considerably across studies, affecting approximately one out of three participants overall. Furthermore, globally major severity of depressive symptoms was found in IGD participants without a clinical diagnosis of depression.
