Association between mode of delivery and postpartum depression: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

Lei Sun et al.

Summary: The study conducted a comprehensive network meta-analysis of 43 studies, finding that there is a difference in the risk of postpartum depression between cesarean section and vaginal delivery, with women who undergo cesarean section, especially emergency cesarean section, being more likely to experience mild postpartum depression.

Reconstruction of the Hypothalamo-Neurohypophysial System and Functional Dissection of Magnocellular Oxytocin Neurons in the Brain

Bin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals the three-dimensional architecture of the hypothalamo-neurohypophysial system (HNS) using viral tracing and whole-brain imaging, uncovering complexity of MNCs collateral projections within the brain. It also demonstrates that subsets of MNCs collaterally project to multiple extrahypothalamic regions, providing structural and functional evidence for coordinating both peripheral and central oxytocin-mediated actions.

Mapping global prevalence of depression among postpartum women

Ziyi Wang et al.

Summary: Postpartum depression is a common psychological condition after childbirth, with a prevalence rate of 17.22% globally. Different geographic regions have varied rates, with Southern Africa having the highest at 39.96%. Developed or high-income countries tend to have lower rates. The condition is influenced by factors such as study size, country development, social support, and lifestyle factors.

Postpartum depression and infant development up to 24 months: A nationwide population-based study

S. Lubotzky-Gete et al.

Summary: In a population-based historical cohort study conducted in Israel, it was found that postpartum depression (PPD) was associated with delays in child development across various domains, including language skills, personal social skills, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills. Future studies should validate these findings and intervention programs should be developed to minimize these gaps effectively.

Are pregnancy and postpartum oxytocin level a predictive biomarker for postpartum depression?

Ayseren Cevik et al.

Summary: This study found that the prevalence of depressive symptoms in the postpartum period was significantly higher than in late pregnancy, and the late pregnancy oxytocin level was significantly higher than the postpartum level. While there was a weak, negative correlation between late pregnancy oxytocin levels and PPD symptoms, linear regression analysis revealed a medium, negative relationship between them. However, no direct relationships were found between PPD symptoms and oxytocin levels.

Suicide Risk and Mood Disorders in Women in the Postpartum Period: a Longitudinal Study

Luciana de Avila Quevedo et al.

Summary: Suicide risk is higher in women who experience depressive or mixed episodes during the postpartum period, with significantly higher odds in those with mixed episodes. Women with chronic episodes during pregnancy and postpartum have an increased risk of postpartum suicide. Early psychiatric evaluation and support during pregnancy and postpartum care may help prevent subsequent risk of suicide.
