Solute drag assessment of grain boundary migration in Au

Ayush Suhane et al.

Summary: In this study, solute drag in gold alloys with Fe and Bi impurities at a specific grain boundary was analyzed using density functional theory calculations. Through comparing experimental data and using a model, it was determined that Bi is a strongly segregating element, while the segregation of Fe is relatively weak. The proposed approach shows advantages in trend predictions but also has some quantitative uncertainties.

Fundamentals and application of solid-state phase transformations for advanced high strength steels containing metastable retained austenite

Zongbiao Dai et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the methods of improving the strength-elongation product of advanced high strength steels by creating tailored multi-phase microstructures and emphasizes the importance of the metastable retained austenite. Through analyzing the role of element partitioning, it provides a conceptual and theoretical framework to accelerate the further development of this class of steels.

Gibbs energy minimisation model for the austenite-ferrite phase transformation in Fe-C-X-Y alloys

Alexandre Mathevon et al.

Summary: A new model has been developed to predict austenite <-> ferrite transformation kinetics in steels by computing concentration profiles for each alloying element and describing interface motion driven by the minimisation of Gibbs energy. The model has been validated for reverse transformation on ternary and quaternary systems and reproduces the transition between thermodynamic equilibria during heating.

Precipitation kinetics in metallic alloys: Experiments and modeling

A. Deschamps et al.

Summary: Nanoscale precipitation is a widely used microstructural tool for manipulating the properties of metallic alloys, particularly to increase strength. The process is controlled by an interplay between thermodynamics and kinetics, resulting in nucleation, growth, and coarsening in a variety of precipitation trajectories.

A novel 3D mixed-mode multigrain model with efficient implementation of solute drag applied to austenite-ferrite phase transformations in Fe-C-Mn alloys

H. Fang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel mixed-mode multigrain model to accurately predict the transformation kinetics of individual grains and overall transformation kinetics under varying alloy compositions. This model efficiently computes energy dissipation by solute drag, predicts microstructural states, and minimizes the need for parameter fine-tuning.

Role of interface morphology on the martensitic transformation in pure Fe

Pawan Kumar Tripathi et al.

Summary: Using classical molecular dynamics simulations, this study investigates the influence of interface morphology on the austenite to ferrite phase transformation in iron. The findings reveal the impact of interface morphology on atomic displacements, stacking fault nucleation, and interface mobility during the phase transformation process. Additionally, the study highlights the opposite temperature dependence trends of interface mobility between flat and ledged boundaries.
