Thermal conductivity and energy storage capacity enhancement and bottleneck of shape-stabilized phase change composites with graphene foam and carbon nanotubes

Zepei Yu et al.

Summary: The research conducted focused on assembling carbon-based composite phase change materials with improved thermal conductivity and energy storage density by encapsulating PEG into graphene foams, CNTs and hierarchical porous materials. Various characterization tools were used to assess the impact of preparation approaches on the microstructures, thermal conductivity, and thermal energy densities of the composites. The results showed that composite structures featuring graphene foam-CNT hybrids exhibit significantly enhanced thermal conductivity and thermal energy densities compared to pure PEG and other composite materials, paving the way for their application in high-energy density, thermal energy conversion, and shape-stabilized phase change materials (ssPCMs) with enhanced thermal conductivity.

Single and Multi-phase Change Materials Used in Cooling Systems

Leila Abdolmaleki et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of thermal energy storage (TES) systems incorporating phase change materials (PCMs) for air conditioning, refrigerators, and freezers. The study compares the effects of single and multi-PCM configurations on cooling systems and finds that multi-PCM configurations improve heat transfer rates, reduce peak/off-peak load gaps, and shift electricity consumption to off-peak times.

Study of thermophysical properties of chloride salts doped with CuO nanoparticles for solar thermal energy storage

Dongmei Han et al.

Summary: In this study, nanocomposites doped with CuO nanoparticles were synthesized using the solution evaporation method, showing superior thermophysical properties compared to the base salt, with higher specific heat, thermal diffusivity, and thermal conductivity. These nanocomposites have potential applications and excellent thermal energy storage performance in high-temperature CSP systems.

Improving thermal energy storage and transfer performance in solar energy storage: Nanocomposite synthesized by dispersing nano boron nitride in solar salt

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, nano hexagonal boron nitride-Solar Salt (h-BN-SS) composite materials were successfully prepared with different content of nano BN to enhance the heat storage and transfer performance of Solar Salt. The specific heat value increased by 16.03% and crystal planes of nitrate on the surface of nano BN promoted the enhancement of surface energy of the whole system. The thermal conductivity of the system was increased and the existence forms of nano BN remained unchanged at high temperature.
