Tailoring the alloy composition for wire arc additive manufacturing utilizing metal-cored wires in the cold metal transfer process

Florian Pixner et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the application and tailoring of chromium martensitic hot work steels for wire arc additive manufacturing using metal cored wires. By optimizing the process parameters, additive manufacturing structures were fabricated from chromium martensitic hot-work tool steel alloys, and their microstructure and mechanical properties were characterized.

Influence of Beam Figure on Porosity of Electron Beam Welded Thin-Walled Aluminum Plates

Matthias Moschinger et al.

Summary: Welded aluminum components in the aerospace industry are subject to stricter safety regulations, and electron beam welding is a precise process that meets this requirement. Aluminum welding poses challenges due to its tendency to form pores. This study examines the pore formation mechanisms in aluminum welds and proposes a solution to reduce their size and quantity.

Effect of Microstructure Refinement on Surface Morphology and Dynamic Mechanical Properties of W-Cu Alloys

Fei Ding et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that refining tungsten grains can improve the dynamic mechanical properties of W-Cu alloys under impact loading, significantly reduce the fracture probability of tungsten phases. The shear strength of gold studs on the coating increased by 33% after grain refinement, indicating that grain refinement has a significant effect on enhancing coating performance.

Additive manufacturing of high density pure tungsten by electron beam melting

D. Dorow-Gerspach et al.

Summary: Tungsten, with its exceptional properties, is a prime candidate for use in challenging applications due to the highest melting point and tensile strength among all natural metals, as well as its high thermal conductivity. Additive manufacturing of tungsten can overcome limitations of classic manufacturing processes, but also poses challenges related to high density and mechanical stability. Using selective electron beam melting, tungsten with a theoretical density of 99% was produced without the need for post-treatments like a second melting step or redensification.
