This paper discusses the importance of a contingency perspective for organizational and supply chain resilience, using the contingent resource-based view as the theoretical framework. It emphasizes the need to address strategic and operational contingencies and highlights the importance of understanding how these contingencies can either support or hinder resilience capabilities. The contingency perspective complements the dominant capability perspective in the literature and offers a more nuanced approach to understanding resilience.
This paper discusses the importance of a contingency perspective of organizational and supply chain resilience. The overall theoretical framework is the contingent resource-based view (CRBV) of a firm. The paper articulates how CRBV can be used to address the strategic and operational contingencies that should be examined in the development of resilience capabilities in organizations and across supply chains. Understanding how these contingencies can support or hinder organizational resilience. is important for managers so they can better evaluate the resilience capabilities of their supply chain and develop capabilities to increase their supply chain's resilience capabilities. The contingency perspective complements the capability perspective that is dominant in the literature on supply chain resilience and provides a more nuanced approach to understanding organizational and supply chain resilience.
