A mathematical model for equitable in-country COVID-19 vaccine allocation

Burcu Balcik et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel mathematical model is developed to address the equitable allocation of COVID-19 vaccines within countries. The model takes into account multiple priority groups, vaccine types, and regional characteristics to propose fair distribution alternatives in a short time. The model minimizes deviations from fair coverage levels and sets minimum coverage thresholds to ensure equitable allocation to higher priority groups and regions. The research provides equity and effectiveness metrics and compares the model's performance to similar models in the literature. A comprehensive numerical study based on actual data from Turkey is conducted to illustrate the model's performance in practice.
