Electrospun, sepiolite-loaded poly(vinyl alcohol)/soy protein isolate nanofibers: Preparation, characterization, and their drug release behavior

David Gutschmidt et al.

Summary: In this study, electrospun nanofibers were used for wound management and drug release, with the incorporation of sepiolite as a secondary release control tool. The addition of sepiolite significantly impacted the drug release behavior, leading to slower release rates, while also improving the mechanical strength of the nanofiber mats. This study demonstrates the potential of using natural biomaterials and nanomaterials in controlled-release drug delivery systems.

Electrospun porous bilayer nano-fibrous fish collagen/PCL bio-composite scaffolds with covalently cross-linked chitooligosaccharides for full-thickness wound-healing applications

Pathum Chandika et al.

Summary: The study fabricated novel bilayer nanofibrous scaffolds composed of fish collagen (FC) and poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) via electrospinning, with the covalent attachment of chitooligosaccharides (COS) using carbodiimide chemistry. The high FC content nanofibrous scaffolds showed functional activity in cytocompatibility analysis, making them suitable for full-thickness wound-healing applications. The assessment of hydrophilicity, swelling, and mechanical integrity confirmed the significant potential of COS-containing FC-rich FC/PCL (FCP) nanofibrous scaffolds for tissue-engineered skin implants for rapid skin regeneration.
