Molecular characterisation of PAL gene family reveals their role in abiotic stress response in lucerne (Medicago sativa)

Yating Feng et al.

Summary: This study reports the PAL gene family in lucerne and provides a comprehensive analysis of their characteristics and potential functions through genome-wide bioinformatics analysis. The study also reveals that the expression of MsPAL6 is significantly upregulated under salinity and waterlogging stresses, while other members show different expression patterns.

Abiotic stress responses in plants

Huiming Zhang et al.

Summary: Plants face abiotic stresses like drought, salinity, and extreme temperatures, which greatly impact their distribution, growth, and crop productivity. Recent research has revealed the complex molecular mechanisms involved in plants' responses to these stresses, including sensing, signaling, transcription, translation, and post-translational modifications. This knowledge can be utilized to enhance crop resilience and sustainability through genetic, chemical, and microbial approaches.

Metabonomics analysis of drought resistance of wheat seedlings induced by β-aminobutyric acid-modified chitooligosaccharide derivative

Xiujing Yin et al.

Summary: A novel chitooligosaccharide grafted with beta-aminobutyric acid, COS-BABA, was successfully synthesized and shown to have better drought resistance-inducing activity compared to raw materials. COS-BABA induces drought resistance by activating signaling pathways related to nucleic acid metabolism and protein synthesis, enhancing photosynthesis in plants.

Integrative Analysis of the Coloring Mechanism of Red Longan Pericarp through Metabolome and Transcriptome Analyses

Debao Yi et al.

Summary: The red pericarp longan has a strong red hue due to the accumulation of cyanidin derivatives in its pericarp. Compared to conventional longan, specific anthocyanins are significantly increased in red pericarp longan, and some structural and controlling genes are upregulated, potentially playing important roles in the biosynthetic pathway of anthocyanin.

Metabolome profiling reveals impact of water limitation on grain filling in contrasting rice genotypes

Preethi Vijayaraghavareddy et al.

Summary: This study compared the response of drought-susceptible IR64 and drought-tolerant Apo rice genotypes under water limitation during grain filling. Apo showed better performance with lower reduction in photosynthetic rate and leaf temperature, as well as less impact on days to maturity, spikelet fertility, seed weight, and transpiration rate compared to IR64. Metabolomic profiling revealed distinct effects of water limitation on metabolite accumulation, with Apo showing upregulation of scavenging mechanisms and higher accumulation of amino acids, while IR64 had higher levels of carbohydrates. Overall, Apo exhibited a lower reduction in yield due to higher source capacity, better source to sink transport, and enhanced scavenging mechanisms.

The mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC) complex mediates one of three pyruvate-supplying pathways that sustain Arabidopsis respiratory metabolism

Xuyen H. Le et al.

Summary: The absence of mitochondrial pyruvate carrier 1 (MPC1) in plants leads to the loss of its putative orthologs, MPC3/MPC4, and hinders pyruvate transport into mitochondria, impacting respiratory metabolism and reducing plant growth. The collaborative function of all pyruvate-supplying enzymes, including MPC1, is essential for sustaining the tricarboxylic acid cycle and supporting plant growth.

The Potential of Using Chitosan on Cereal Crops in the Face of Climate Change

Joanna Kociecka et al.

Summary: The use of chitosan in agriculture shows promise in improving cereal crops, with research mainly focusing on wheat, maize, and rice. However, more studies are needed to explore the impact of chitosan on other cereals such as millets and sorghum. Chitosan has demonstrated effectiveness against diseases and pathogens, as well as improving yield, chlorophyll content, and plant growth parameters, while also enhancing resistance to environmental stresses like drought, salt, and low temperatures. Further research is required to fully understand the field efficacy of chitosan.

Response Mechanism of Plants to Drought Stress

Xinyi Yang et al.

Summary: With global climate anomalies and the destruction of ecological balance, water scarcity has become a serious ecological problem, making drought a key constraint in agricultural development. This study examines the effects of drought stress on plant morphology and physiology, signal transduction pathways, and genes related to drought stress, providing valuable background knowledge for future agricultural and forestry breeding.
