Effects of exercise intensity on white adipose tissue browning and its regulatory signals in mice

Riku Tanimura et al.

Summary: The effects of high- or low-intensity exercises on the browning of white adipose tissue (WAT) were examined in this study. It was found that high-intensity exercise increased mitochondrial contents and heat production capacity in WAT, and also increased the protein expression level of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) in skeletal muscle.

High-intensity interval exercise in the cold regulates acute and postprandial metabolism

Stephanie Munten et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of cold ambient temperatures on acute metabolism during high-intensity interval exercise and postprandial metabolism the following day. Results showed that HIIE exercise in a cold environment can increase lipid oxidation during exercise, but has minimal impact on postprandial lipid metabolism.

Brown and beige adipose tissue: a novel therapeutic strategy for obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Long Cheng et al.

Summary: There are two major types of adipose tissue in mammals, white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT), with different functions. White adipocytes can transdifferentiate into beige adipocytes, which play a significant role in the treatment of obesity and diabetes. Activation of BAT and induction of browning of WAT may provide a new strategy for improving glycolipid metabolism and insulin resistance in obese and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients.

Novel methods for cold exposure of skeletal muscle in vivo and in vitro show temperature-dependent myokine production

Solveig Krapf et al.

Summary: Cold exposure of muscle, both in vivo and in vitro, has been shown to alter the expression of several myokine genes, leading to increased mRNA and protein levels. However, the secretion of these myokines tended to be decreased after cold exposure.

Beneficial effects of whole-body cryotherapy on glucose homeostasis and amino acid profile are associated with a reduced myostatin serum concentration

Marta Kozlowska et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of single and chronic whole-body cryotherapy on amino acid profile, myostatin, FGF21, BDNF, irisin, and adiponectin in relation to glucose homoeostasis. Chronic cryotherapy was found to have a regulatory effect on glucose homoeostasis and myostatin, with age playing a role in the outcomes.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of endurance exercise under different environmental temperatures on myokine responses. Findings revealed that exercise in hot environment positively influenced FGF21 and myostatin concentrations compared to thermoneutral conditions.

Short and long-term effects of high-intensity interval training applied alone or with whole-body cryostimulation on glucose homeostasis and myokine levels in overweight to obese subjects

Marta Kozlowska-Flis et al.

Summary: The study found that high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) have a positive impact on metabolic indicators, but the mechanisms of action may differ. HIIT can increase FGF21 and adiponectin levels, improve lipid profile and beta-cell function, while WBC improves blood glucose levels.
