Influences of Vitamin D Levels and Vitamin D-Binding Protein Polymorphisms on Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Risk in a Chinese Population

Min Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that low plasma VD levels may increase susceptibility to NAFLD, while the rs7041-G allele in VDBP contributed to a decreased NAFLD risk among the Chinese population. Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for age, gender, and overweight, individuals carrying the rs7041-G allele had a significantly decreased risk of NAFLD occurrence.

Summary: This study investigates the role of vitamin D binding protein (VDBP, DBP) and its polymorphism in the vitamin D pathway and human health. The review provides the latest literature on the association between VDBP and various diseases, highlighting the importance of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the VDBP gene.

Potential roles of vitamin D binding protein in attenuating liver injury in sepsis

Kun Xiao et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between serum vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) level and liver injury in sepsis patients. The results showed that VDBP levels were significantly lower in sepsis patients compared to healthy controls, and lower levels were associated with greater liver damage. The study also found that VDBP overexpression reduced liver damage in a mouse model and cultured liver epithelial cells exposed to lipopolysaccharide (LPS). These findings suggest that VDBP may have a protective effect against sepsis-induced liver injury.

Serum vitamin D and vitamin-D-binding protein levels in children with chronic hepatitis B

Cai-Zhi Huang et al.

Summary: Children with CHB have lower serum levels of 25(OH)D and VDBP than healthy controls. VDBP levels are negatively correlated with HBV replication, while low 25(OH)D levels are independently associated with hepatic fibrosis in children with CHB. There is no significant correlation between serum levels of 25(OH)D and VDBP.

Function of γδ T cells in tumor immunology and their application to cancer therapy

Jang Hyun Park et al.

Summary: Gamma delta (γδ) T cells, an unconventional subset with diverse functions, have potential in cancer immunotherapy due to their independence from MHC molecules. Although some subsets of gamma delta T cells may have immunosuppressive or tumor-promoting functions, their broad antigen specificity and cytotoxicity make them attractive targets for antitumor therapy. The investigation and application of gamma delta T cells have been challenging, but various approaches, including endogenous activation and adoptive transfer, hold promise for cancer therapy.

Effect and mechanism of vitamin D activation disorder on liver fibrosis in biliary atresia

Song Sun et al.

Summary: The study revealed that children with biliary atresia have vitamin D deficiency and downregulated expression of CYP2R1. The downregulation of CYP2R1 leads to increased expression of fibrosis-related genes in primary hepatic stellate cells, exacerbating the development of liver fibrosis.

Vitamin D Incorporation in Foods: Formulation Strategies, Stability, and Bioaccessibility as Affected by the Food Matrix

Vera Lavelli et al.

Summary: Inadequate intake of vitamin D is a global health issue, especially affecting individuals with dark skin pigmentation, malnutrition, malabsorption syndromes, obesity, and the elderly. Various approaches to fortifying foods with vitamin D have been explored, but there is still a lack of global fortification strategies. Additionally, studies have highlighted the need for better understanding of how food technologies impact the stability and bioaccessibility of vitamin D in order to design food matrices that balance long-term stability, bioaccessibility, and in vivo functionality.
