Functionalized niosomes as a smart delivery device in cancer and fungal infection

Priyadarshi Aparajay et al.

Summary: Many diseases remain untreated due to lack of suitable therapeutic drugs or drug delivery devices. Niosomes, as drug delivery carriers, have advantages such as ease of surface modification, non-immunogenicity, and cost-effectiveness. Active targeting through coupling suitable ligands on niosomal surface is a preferred method for treatment. Combination therapy and gene silencing concept are also advanced alternative treatments for certain diseases.

Phytochemical Delivery Through Transferosome (Phytosome): An Advanced Transdermal Drug Delivery for Complementary Medicines

Rong-Ping Chen et al.

Summary: Transdermal drug delivery is a safe and effective method of administering drugs through the skin. Transferosomes, flexible vesicles with better skin penetration properties, have been discovered as a promising carrier for transdermal drug delivery. By attaching specific herbal extracts to phosphatidylcholine, phytosomes (Transferosomes) improve drug solubility and absorption. This review highlights the potential of nanotechnology, particularly phytosomes, as lipid-based nanocarriers for transdermal drug delivery.

Phytosomes as Innovative Delivery Systems for Phytochemicals: A Comprehensive Review of Literature

Mahmood Barani et al.

Summary: Medicinal herbs and their phytochemicals are increasingly being used as therapeutic options for various disorders, but their poor bioavailability and selectivity pose challenges for clinical application. Different methods, including nano-vesicles, have been proposed to enhance the bioavailability of phytochemicals. Studies have shown that phytosomes, especially those containing compounds like curcumin and silymarin, demonstrate greater effectiveness in terms of biological activity and reduced dosage, with promising clinical and experimental findings supporting their applications.

Mahmood Barani et al.

Summary: Paclitaxel-loaded pH-responsive niosomes modified with ergosterol were developed and characterized in terms of size, morphology, encapsulation efficiency, and release profiles. The niosomes showed enhanced anticancer efficacy compared to free PTX, with reduced toxicity in in vivo studies. Overall, encapsulating PTX in niosomes could be a promising strategy to improve its therapeutic effectiveness.

Tuning the phase transition temperature of hybrid Span60-L64 thermoresponsive niosomes: Insights from fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy

Deepthi Priyanka Damera et al.

Summary: This study reported the formation of hybrid niosome vesicles for the first time using non-ionic surfactant Span60 (S60) and triblock copolymer L64, along with cholesterol. Different compositions of hybrid niosomes were characterized and their phase transition behavior was studied using Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), zeta potential, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), steady-state fluorescence, and Raman spectroscopy techniques. The phase transition temperature (Tm) of the vesicles could be tuned by adjusting the mole percentage of S60 in pure L64, making the hybrid niosomes a potential thermoresponsive drug delivery system.
