Optimization of the Preparation of Activated Carbon from Prickly Pear Seed Cake for the Removal of Lead and Cadmium Ions from Aqueous Solution

Rimene Dhahri et al.

Summary: In this study, prickly pear seed cake was used as a precursor for producing activated carbon, and its capacity for removing heavy metals from aqueous solution was evaluated. Optimal preparation conditions for activating the carbon were determined using response surface methodology, and the carbon's adsorption performance and regeneration capability were investigated.

Combined Experimental and Theoretical Insights into the Corrosion Inhibition Activity on Carbon Steel Iron of Phosphonic Acids

Aurelia Visa et al.

Summary: The study found that PMG and VPA act as mixed-type inhibitors in 3% NaCl acidic solution, effectively inhibiting the corrosion process of carbon steel iron with inhibition rates of approximately 91% and 85% respectively. A synergic effect of chlorine ions was observed in the presence of PMG. Density functional theory was used to determine the adsorption site and various electronic properties of the inhibitors on the metal surface. The experimental and calculated results are in agreement regarding the inhibition behavior and adsorption of PMG and VPA inhibitors.
