Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Harmirins, Novel Harmine-Coumarin Hybrids as Potential Anticancer Agents

Kristina Pavic et al.

Summary: Novel compounds harmirins, comprising harmine and coumarin scaffolds, were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their antiproliferative activity against human cancer cell lines. The most potent activities were observed against MCF-7 and HCT116 cell lines, with harmirin 12b showing cytoplasmic localization and inducing G1 arrest. These findings suggest harmirin 12b as a potential novel anticancer agent worth further evaluation.

Novel Ferrocene Derivatives Induce Apoptosis through Mitochondria-Dependent and Cell Cycle Arrest via PI3K/Akt/mTOR Signaling Pathway in T Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Liao Zeng et al.

Summary: T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a malignant hematologic disease with high mortality rates, and the development of novel therapeutic agents is urgently needed due to limitations in current clinical chemotherapy. In this study, ferrocene derivatives F1 and F3 were found to exhibit potent anti-T-ALL activity by inducing apoptosis through a mitochondria-dependent pathway mediated by ROS, and cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase via the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway in Jurkat cells. These findings suggest that F1 and F3 hold promise as potential candidates for the future treatment of T-ALL.
