Langerhans cells and SFRP2/Wnt/beta-catenin signalling control adaptation of skin epidermis to mechanical stretching

Joanna K. Ledwon et al.

Summary: This study reveals that tissue expansion mechanically stimulates the activation of SFRP2 protein in the skin, which is secreted by Langerhans cells. SFRP2 may act as a newly discovered effector of mechanotransduction pathways. Additionally, stretching activates Wnt signaling and cell proliferation, and tissue-expanded Langerhans cells proliferate and rebuild their network in the growing skin.

Mechanical Stretching Can Modify the Papillary Dermis Pattern and Papillary Fibroblast Characteristics during Skin Regeneration

Poh-Ching Tan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effects of mechanical stretching on skin regeneration in humans, showing that it increases the population of papillary fibroblasts (Fp) and collagen synthesis, improves skin regeneration through the TGF beta 1/SMAD2/3 pathway, but long-term stretching can lead to premature Fp senescence and poor regeneration.

Patient Reported Outcome Measures After Breast Augmentation - Using the BREAST-Q IS

Randi T. Jayasinghe et al.

Summary: This study analyzed responses to an open-ended question in the BREAST-Q Implant Surveillance module to assess patients' experiences of breast devices 1 and 2 years after augmentation. The study identified four major themes - satisfaction, dissatisfaction, complications and breast symptoms, and other comments. Emerging issues included rippling of breast implants and breast implant illness.

Development of an evidence-based approach to the use of acellular dermal matrix in immediate expander-implant-based breast reconstruction

Nishant Ganesh Kumar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify patient subgroups where acellular dermal matrix (ADM) improved clinical outcomes and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in expander-implant-based breast reconstruction. Results showed that ADM was associated with a greater risk of major complications, particularly in high-BMI patients, and no significant improvement in patient satisfaction, psychosocial well-being, sexual well-being, and physical well-being. This suggests a more critical approach to the use of ADM in expander-implant reconstruction may be necessary.
