Microglial inflammasome activation drives developmental white matter injury

Rebecca K. Holloway et al.

Summary: Injury to the developing brain during the perinatal period often leads to hypomyelination, and dysregulation of inflammation and microglia may play a role. Activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in microglia is associated with pathology, and blocking it can rescue myelination. The interaction between inflammasome product IL1 beta and follistatin may provide new therapeutic strategies for reinstating myelination following developmental injury.

Assessing Autophagy in Microglia: A Two-Step Model to Determine Autophagosome Formation, Degradation, and Net Turnover

Ainhoa Plaza-Zabala et al.

Summary: Autophagy is a critical cellular process that helps cells clear debris and maintain innate immune function. Understanding autophagic flux is important for studying the stages of autophagy. To dissect the regulation and impact of autophagy, systematic analysis of both autophagosome formation and degradation stages is necessary.

Plaque associated microglia hyper-secrete extracellular vesicles and accelerate tau propagation in a humanized APP mouse model

Kevin Clayton et al.

Summary: Our findings suggest that MGnD microglia hyper-secrete p-tau(+) EVs while compacting A beta plaques and clearing NP tau, which we propose as a novel mechanistic link between amyloid plaque deposition and exacerbation of tau propagation in App(NL-G-F) mice.
