Transcription factor BES1 interacts with HSFA1 to promote heat stress resistance of plants

Pablo Albertos et al.

Summary: Heat stress is a significant environmental stress that can hinder plant growth and development. A study has shown that brassinosteroids (BRs) play a role in the heat stress response in plants and interact with heat shock transcription factors (HSFs) to enhance their activity. These findings expand our understanding of the plant's heat stress response and highlight the involvement of BES1 in heat stress signaling.

Engineering Chimeras by Fusing Plant Receptor-like Kinase EMS1 and BRI1 Reveals the Two Receptors' Structural Specificity and Molecular Mechanisms

Qunwei Bai et al.

Summary: Brassinosteroids (BRs) are plant hormones essential for plant growth and development. In this study, the researchers investigated the structural specificity and molecular mechanism of the BR receptors BRI1 and EMS1. They found that BRI1 and EMS1 have a common signal output, but differ in gene structural specificity and molecular response. Furthermore, they compared the kinase domains of BRI1 and EMS1 and found differences in their kinase activity. The study also revealed that BRI1 and EMS1 share a substrate called BSKs. Overall, the findings provide insight into the origin and divergence of BR receptors.

Bowen Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the signaling cascade of BR in plants. The findings reveal that the receptor NILR1 can complement the function of the mutant bri1 in the absence of BRs, indicating a pathway that resembles the BR signaling activated by BRI1. It is also demonstrated that NILR1 and BRI1 share the coreceptor BRI1 Associated Kinase 1 and substrate BSKs. Additionally, the downstream pathway mediated by NILR1 is conserved across land plants.

Behavior and possible function of Arabidopsis BES1/BZR1 homolog 2 in brassinosteroid signaling

Yui Otani et al.

Summary: The study found that BEH2 was highly expressed in the roots and leaf margins, which was significantly different from another member BEH4. BRs downregulated the expression of BEH2 through a module containing GSK3-like kinases and BES1 transcription factors, with BES1 playing a more important role in this process than BZR1. BEH2 consistently existed in the nucleus and its subcellular localization was not controlled by BR-dependent nuclear-cytoplasmic shuttling. Furthermore, gene ontology analysis suggested that BEH2 may be involved in stress response and photosynthesis.

Insight into early diversification of leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinases provided by the sequenced moss and hornwort genomes

Chihiro Furumizu et al.

Summary: The identification of LRR-RLKs in the genomes of mosses and hornworts suggests their diversification into distinct groups during the early evolution of land plants. Phylogenetic analysis of LRR-RLK X sequences from major land plant lineages reveals that this subfamily diversified into six major clades before the split between bryophytes and vascular plants. The phylogenetic distribution of major clades indicates that the current receptor repertoire was shaped by lineage-specific gene family expansions and independent gene losses, highlighting dynamic changes in the evolution of LRR-RLKs.
