Effect of TiB2 Particles on the Morphological, Mechanical and Corrosion Behaviour of Al7075 Metal Matrix Composite Produced Using Stir Casting Process

M. Manoj et al.

Summary: This study focused on investigating the morphological, mechanical, and corrosion behavior of Al7075-TiB2 metal matrix composites. The addition of TiB2 particles through stir casting process improved the tensile strength and micro hardness of the composites, while reducing the wear rate. Electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization and salt spray tests confirmed the enhanced corrosion resistance of the Al-TiB2 composites.

The Effect of Fe Content on the Solidification Pathway, Microstructure and Thermal Conductivity of Hypoeutectic Al-Si Alloys

Junqi Gan et al.

Summary: The present study systematically investigated the solidification pathway, microstructure, and thermal conductivity of Fe-rich Al-x Si alloys. It was found that the thermal conductivity initially improved and then decreased with increasing Fe content, with the rate depending on the Si content. The addition of Fe led to the precipitation of different phases, which had varying effects on thermal conductivity.

Effect of Scandium in Al-Sc and Al-Sc-Zr Alloys Under Precipitation Strengthening Mechanism at 350 °C Aging

Xue Na et al.

Summary: The study focused on the micro hardness and micro structure of Al-Sc alloy and Al-Sc-Zr alloy with different scandium percentages. It was observed that there was only slight difference in hardness during the initial aging stage of the developed alloys, while the Al-Sc-Zr alloy maintained peak hardness for a longer period, showing better thermal stability. Analysis also indicated the inhibition of precipitate growth through precipitation of Zr in the initial aging stage. TEM results revealed the formation of two different sized precipitates in the Al-Sc-Zr alloy after reaching peak hardness.

Comparative Evaluation of Ex Situ and In Situ Method of Fabricating Aluminum/TiB2 Composites

V. S. Ayar et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the fabrication of Al-TiB2 composites using in situ and ex situ methods, focusing on the effect of processing temperature on the formation of titanium diboride particles. Comparative evaluation of the two methods was conducted, along with an analysis of various process parameters on mechanical properties. The results indicated that in situ composites exhibited a more homogeneous distribution of particles and higher mechanical properties compared to ex situ composites.

Characterization of physical and mechanical properties of aluminium based composites reinforced with titanium diboride particulates

Dipankar Dey et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of titanium diboride addition on physical and mechanical properties of Al2024-TiB2 composites manufactured using stir casting route. The results showed that an increase in TiB2 content resulted in improved hardness and tensile strength of the composites, with a significant enhancement in Al2024-9% TiB2 composite. SEM analysis revealed a different fracture mode between reinforced and unreinforced materials.
