Acoustic metaliners for sound insulation in a duct with little flow resistance

T. S. Oh et al.

Summary: This study proposes a metaliner that can effectively insulate duct noise for various grazing flow speeds while minimizing flow resistance. By establishing an effective impedance model of the metaliner considering the effect of flow, a design method for a high transmission loss metaliner for different flow speeds is presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the designed metaliners achieve transmission loss above 45 dB/m at the target frequencies for different flow speeds. The study investigates the effects of flow on sound absorption and insulation, exploring the applicability of the metaliner in environments where noise suppression is required both upstream and downstream in ducts with flow.
