Influence of Ce substitution in LaMO3 (M = Co/Ni) perovskites for COx-free hydrogen production from ammonia decomposition

Seetharamulu Podila et al.

Summary: In this study, LaNiO3 and LaCoO3 catalysts were prepared using citric acid as the organic fuel through combustion synthesis method and tested for NH3 decomposition. Partial substitution of La by Ce in both catalysts showed a remarkable effect on catalytic performance, especially at lower temperatures. The La0.5Ce0.5NiO3 catalyst exhibited the highest activity among all prepared samples and demonstrated excellent stable catalytic performance during 50 hours of study at 550 degrees C.

Ammonia as a carrier for hydrogen production by using lanthanum based perovskites

M. Pinzon et al.

Summary: LaNiO3 and LaCoO3 perovskites synthesized by self-combustion were characterized in the ammonia decomposition reaction for hydrogen production. Fuel to metal nitrates molar ratio and calcination temperature were crucial for perovskite synthesis. Non-precursor species generation and small metal size significantly influenced catalytic activity. LaNiO3 perovskite with suitable physicochemical properties was obtained with a citric acid to metal nitrates molar ratio of one and a lower calcination temperature. LaNiO3 displayed excellent catalytic performance for the decomposition of ammonia into hydrogen at 450 degrees C.

Hydrogen production by ammonia decomposition over ruthenium supported on SiC catalyst

M. Pinzon et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of catalyst preparation conditions on hydrogen production from ammonia decomposition. It is found that Ru dispersion and metallic particle size significantly affect catalytic activity. Calcination in a nitrogen atmosphere enhances catalytic activity, and lower reduction temperatures lead to more active ruthenium particles. Maximum intrinsic activity is achieved with Ru particle size around 5 nm under specific conditions.

Ru-Based Catalysts for Ammonia Decomposition: A Mini-Review

Chongqi Chen et al.

Summary: Ammonia with a hydrogen content of 17.6 wt % is considered a promising hydrogen carrier with established infrastructures for production, storage, and transportation. Various metal-based catalysts, especially Ru-based ones, have been developed for NH3 decomposition, aiming to improve performance by reducing Ru loading and reaction temperature. Research focuses on support materials such as carbon (CNTs, CNFs, graphene) and metal oxides (Al2O3, MgO, SiO2) to understand the relationship between catalytic performance and structure.
