Synthesis process and catalytic activity ofNb2O5hollow spheres for reversible hydrogen storage ofMgH2

Xuelian Zhang et al.

Summary: The synthesis of Nb(2)O(5) hollow spheres (o-Nb2O5) by a hydrothermal and calcination process has shown high catalytic activity in MgH(2) hydrogen storage, lowering the dehydrogenation temperature and increasing the amount of released hydrogen. Furthermore, o-Nb2O5 was found to be reduced in situ by MgH(2) to enhance dehydrogenation kinetics.

Chemical transformation of additive phase in MgH2/CeO2 hydrogen storage system and its effect on catalytic performance

D. Pukazhselvan et al.

Summary: This study shows that the dehydrogenation activation energy of MgH2 can be lowered by incorporating ceria, but the ceria undergoes phase transformations during dehydrogenation. It also suggests that reduced cerium oxide phases may be mistaken as cerium hydrides, therefore the belief in CeH2 as an active catalyst in the MgH2/CeO2 hydrogen storage system needs further scrutiny.

Realizing 6.7 wt% reversible storage of hydrogen at ambient temperature with non-confined ultrafine magnesium hydrides

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: Using ultrafine magnesium hydride nanoparticles without scaffolds or supports, reversible hydrogen storage at ambient temperature with a capacity of 6.7 wt% was achieved, thanks to thermodynamic destabilization and decreased kinetic barriers. The nanoparticles exhibited stable and rapid hydrogen cycling behavior at 150 degrees C, showing a significant improvement compared to bulk MgH2. This study brings magnesium hydride closer to practical applications and introduces new pathways for fabricating sensitive nanoparticles.
