Comparison of hydrogen diffusivities measured by electrochemical permeation and temperature-programmed desorption in cold-rolled pure iron

Alfredo Zafra et al.

Summary: The diffusivity of hydrogen in cold-rolled pure iron was investigated using various methods such as permeation and desorption experiments, which showed good agreement between isothermal desorption and permeation approaches, with observed differences discussed and rationalized. The measured diffusivity values for cold-rolled pure iron were found to be comparable to those reported in the literature. This work demonstrates the convenience of isothermal desorption experiments in determining hydrogen diffusivity over a wide range of temperatures.

Summary: Hydrogen is considered a promising energy carrier, but is associated with embrittlement in metallic components, causing damage to infrastructure. Understanding hydrogen-induced crack initiation mechanisms can help in designing materials resistant to hydrogen embrittlement.

Simultaneous Measurements of Polarization Resistance and Hydrogen Permeation Current of Iron in an Aqueous NaCl Droplet

Saya Ajito et al.

Summary: The study applied a Kelvin probe technique and an electrochemical hydrogen permeation method to investigate the hydrogen uptake mechanism of iron during the drying process of NaCl droplets. It was found that the corrosion resistance increased gradually with increasing corroded areas on the iron surface, while the hydrogen permeation current was mainly influenced by the corrosion potential.

Strain rate sensitivity of hydrogen-assisted ε-martensitic transformation and associated hydrogen embrittlement in high-Mn steel

Chunxi Hao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the promotion of deformation-induced gamma-epsilon martensitic transformation by hydrogen charging at various strain rates. Hydrogen charging and decreasing strain rates both enhance the martensitic transformation, while hydrogen also increases hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility. Hydrogen uptake deteriorates resistance to crack initiation and propagation, with the primary effect of decreasing strain rates being the acceleration of crack propagation.

The role of hydrogen in the edge dislocation mobility and grain boundary-dislocation interaction in α-Fe

Summary: Investigations on dislocation mobility in the presence of hydrogen revealed that hydrogen decreases dislocation velocity and induces some localization. Additionally, hydrogen accumulation in the grain boundary suppresses new grain formation, leading to material hardening and potentially initiating brittle fracture points.
