Development of correlations between deasphalted oil yield and Hansen solubility parameters of heavy oil SARA fractions for solvent deasphalting extraction

Jun Woo Park et al.

Summary: This study conducted a quantitative analysis to predict the yields of deasphalted oil (DAO) in the solvent deasphalting (SDA) process. The effects of temperature and solvent-to-oil ratio (SOR) on the DAO yield were explained using simple and accurate correlations. The results showed that temperature and SOR have a significant impact on the DAO yield.

Novel low-field NMR method for characterization content and SARA composition of bitumen in rocks

Marsel G. Fazlyyyakhmatov et al.

Summary: In the oil industry, there is a need for fast and non-invasive methods for determining the bitumen content and group composition in rock samples. This study presents a novel method using low-frequency nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation technique that allows direct determination of bitumen content and composition in porous media. The method was tested and compared with other analysis techniques, showing good agreement and promising applications in characterizing bitumen and controlling oil production processes.

Experimental investigation on carbon microstructure for coal gasification in supercritical water

Jingli Sun et al.

Summary: The supercritical water gasification process of coal has the potential to convert coal into CO2 and H-2 effectively and environmentally. Through investigating the carbon microstructure evolution of different coal ranks, it was found that inhibiting the condensation of aromatic rings is crucial for achieving complete carbon conversion during SCWGC. Additionally, Raman and XRD spectral parameters were found to be closely related to carbon gasification efficiency.

Phase behavior of surface films of SARA fractions extracted from heavy oil

Mayara Alves Rosa Neves et al.

Summary: This study describes the phase behavior of interfacial films formed by petroleum amphiphiles at different subphase pH and identifies two distinct phase transitions. Asphaltene films generally have higher surface pressures compared to other SARA fractions, indicating their higher surface activity. These findings provide insight into the stability of films in dispersed systems such as foams and emulsions based on the SARA composition.
