Diffusion Properties of Hydrogen in B2-TiFe

S. E. Kulkova et al.

Summary: The diffusion properties of hydrogen in B2-TiFe alloy were investigated using density functional theory and transition state theory. It was found that hydrogen diffusion occurs through atom jump between octahedral positions surrounded by two iron atoms and four titanium atoms. The migration barriers were determined to be 0.57 eV and 0.99 eV for the first-order and second-order transition states, respectively. Analytical expressions were derived for the temperature-dependent diffusion coefficient of hydrogen in the alloy, and it was shown that considering second-order transition states has insignificant effects on the diffusion coefficient.

Diffusion properties of oxygen in the α2-Ti3Al alloy

Alexander Bakulin et al.

Summary: In this study, analytic expressions for the temperature-dependent diffusion coefficient of oxygen in the alpha 2-Ti3Al alloy were obtained using Landman's method. The estimation of oxygen diffusion coefficient, pre-exponential factor, and activation energy was performed using migration barriers calculated by the first principle method within density functional theory. The validated method showed good agreement between the calculated diffusion coefficient of oxygen and available experimental data and theoretical results obtained within statistical approach.

Substitutional effects in TiFe for hydrogen storage: a comprehensive review

Erika M. Dematteis et al.

Summary: This work provides a comprehensive review of chemical substitution in TiFe-based compounds for guiding compound design and materials selection in current and future hydrogen storage applications, with a focus on manganese substitution. Mono- and multi-substituted compounds modify TiFe thermodynamics and are beneficial for many hydrogenation properties.
