Frailty Among Older Individuals with and without COPD: A Cohort Study of Prevalence and Association with Adverse Outcomes

Melissa H. Roberts et al.

Summary: This study describes the prevalence of frailty among individuals with COPD and investigates the association between frailty and mortality and other adverse outcomes. The findings reveal that frailty prevalence is significantly higher among COPD patients compared to non-COPD patients, even before retirement (50-64 years). These measures can help identify patients at increased risk of poor outcomes.

Fostering healthy aging: The interdependency of infections, immunity and frailty

Davide L. Vetrano et al.

Summary: The relationship between infections and frailty, as well as the impact of frailty on immune response in older adults, have been studied. Evidence suggests that there is a link between infections and frailty, and frailty may lead to impaired immune response in older ages. However, more research is needed to develop personalized immunization strategies for older adults.

Association of entirely claims-based frailty indices with long-term outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, or pneumonia: a nationwide cohort study in Turkey

Harun Kundi et al.

Summary: This study compared two commonly used frailty indices in predicting clinical adverse outcomes in AMI, HF, and pneumonia patients, showing that different indices have varying performance across different conditions, with one better at predicting readmissions and the other more accurate at predicting mortality.
