Investigation of fatigue crack propagation behavior in steel fiber-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) under cyclic flexural loading

Yanfei Niu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the fatigue crack propagation behavior in ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) containing different volume fractions of steel fibers under cyclic flexural loading. Different UHPC specimens exhibit varying critical crack lengths and propagation rates, with strain diagrams showing distinct patterns for crack growth. The research highlights the importance of reducing applied stress level and increasing steel fiber reinforcement to enhance fatigue life.

Compressive fatigue behaviors of ultra-high performance concrete containing coarse aggregate

Lijian Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the uniaxial compressive fatigue behaviors of ultra-high performance concrete containing coarse aggregate (UHPC-CA) and the effects of coarse aggregate content on its fatigue responses. The results show that the crack propagation, strain development, and fatigue life of UHPC-CA specimens are largely affected by the coarse aggregate incorporation, resulting in an increased risk of premature fatigue failure with higher coarse aggregate content. A modified model based on strain development is proposed to estimate the nonlinear evolution of fatigue damage, showing good agreement with experimental results.

The bond properties between ultra-high-performance concrete and normal strength concrete substrate: Bond macro-performance and overlay transition zone microstructure

Shuo Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the bond performance between ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and normal strength concrete (NSC) substrate. A hoop constraint method is designed to assess the shrinkage effect of repair materials on bond macro-performance. The results indicate that the hoop constraint method effectively reflects the ability of UHPC to overcome significant shrinkage and achieve good bond performance. Moreover, the UHPC-combined substrate exhibits better bond strength and a more compact repair interface than NSC.

Study on ECC compression fatigue under different constant lateral compression levels

Guanhua Hu et al.

Summary: The fatigue performance of ECC cubic specimens was tested, and S-N curves were established for various stress conditions. ECC exhibited superior fatigue performance compared to plain concrete and fiber reinforced concrete. A three-parameter Weibull distribution model was used to calculate the P-S-N curve for ECC specimens. The study also evaluated the stress-strain behavior, peak deformation development, and secondary strain rate.

Uniaxial compressive fatigue behavior of ultra-high performance concrete reinforced with super-fine stainless wires

Sufen Dong et al.

Summary: The addition of only 0.5% SSWs into RPC significantly enhances its fatigue life and energy dissipation capacity, while also increasing the fatigue limit strength at 50% failure probability to 76.6% of static uniaxial compressive strength. These improvements are mainly attributed to the effects of SSWs on the microstructure of RPC, including enhancing compactness, inhibiting crack initiation, and the ability to transform a single main crack into multiple micro cracks.

Fiber reinforced polymer composites sustainability under prolonged exposure to hot seawater: Experimental and prediction study

Amir Hussain Idrisi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a long-term experimental investigation of E-glass/epoxy and E-glass/polyurethane composites durability exposed to seawater at different temperatures. The study found that prolonged immersion in seawater accelerates the rate of fiber/matrix debonding. Additionally, the long-term behavior of the composites in different geographical areas was predicted using Arrhenius degradation theory.

Fatigue resistance of reinforced UHPFRC beams

Bartlomiej Sawicki et al.

Summary: Experimental testing on full-scale beams revealed that the fatigue resistance of reinforced Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious composite (R-UHPFRC) beams is dependent on both minimum and maximum loadings in the cycle. The increase of stress range in the rebar during the fatigue process was discussed and quantified, leading to recommendations for fatigue verification of R-UHPFRC beams.

Application of the C-S-H Phase Nucleating Agents to Improve the Performance of Sustainable Concrete Composites Containing Fly Ash for Use in the Precast Concrete Industry

Grzegorz Ludwik Golewski et al.

Summary: The utilization of siliceous fly ash as an additive to concrete can have positive environmental effects but may reduce the performance of concrete in its early stages. However, the use of a specifically formulated chemical nano-admixture (NA) can accelerate the strength growth in concretes with fly ash, making it possible to use them in a wide range of sustainable concrete prefabrication applications.

Cyclic fatigue failure of TPU using a crack propagation approach

Giorgia Scetta et al.

Summary: The study shows that the stress-stretch curve of TPUs changes with the number of applied cycles when cyclically loaded up to the same value of maximum stretch, but eventually reaches a steady state. A suitable methodology based on fracture mechanics approach is proposed to evaluate the cyclic fatigue resistance in TPUs, with additional treatments to account for the higher tendency to creep of TPUs compared to thermoset rubbers. Comparing the results with classical filled rubbers, TPUs demonstrate excellent toughness and cyclic fatigue resistance, suggesting new opportunities for applications requiring resistance to crack propagation under cyclic loading at large strains.
