On the superplastic deformation mechanisms of near-α TNW700 titanium alloy

Lixia Ma et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the superplastic deformation microstructure evolution and mechanism of the new near-alpha TNW700 titanium alloy at different strain rates and true strains. Results showed that the alloy exhibited excellent superplastic behavior within a certain strain rate range, with decreasing peak stress and significant strain hardening followed by flow softening. Electron backscatter diffraction and high resolution transmission electron microscopy were used to characterize the microstructure.

Toward an understanding of dwell fatigue damage mechanism of bimodal Ti-6Al-4V alloys

L. R. Zeng et al.

Summary: The dwell fatigue effect poses a threat to the long-term reliability of fan blades and fan disks in aircraft engines. The study examined the fatigue properties of bimodal Ti-6Al-4V alloys with different volume fractions of the primary alpha phase, and found that both pure fatigue and dwell fatigue life decreased with increasing alpha phase volume fraction. The dwell loading induced damage to the alpha phase and reduced fatigue life.

Strain localization and fatigue crack formation at (0001) twist boundaries in titanium alloys

S. Hemery et al.

Summary: The study identified a unique crack nucleation mechanism involving strain localization at (0001) twist boundaries in titanium alloys, with crack initiation preferentially occurring at twist angles spanning the 10 degrees - 20 degrees range. The (0001) twist boundaries are preferred locations for early and intense strain localization, and deformation prior to crack initiation proceeds via shear along these boundaries.

Review of the fatigue behavior of hard coating-ductile substrate systems

Yan-yun Bai et al.

Summary: This study focuses on how the properties of ceramic coatings affect fatigue performance and discusses the influence of coatings on the mechanism of fatigue crack initiation in substrates. It points out that the fatigue behavior in hard coating-ductile substrate systems largely depends on the nature of the coatings.

Effects of orientation on microstructure and mechanical properties of TiN/AlN superlattice films

Yanmeng Chen et al.

Summary: By adjusting the orientation of the entire superlattice films under the same deposition parameters, it was observed that AlN has a thicker coherent thickness in the <110>-oriented TiN/AlN superlattice film, leading to a higher hardness peak value of around 38.6GPa. This work provides a new implementation method to improve the mechanical properties of superlattice films.
