RANKING OF THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF STEELS OF STEAM PIPELINES OF THERMAL POWER PLANTS BY THEIR SENSITIVITY TO IN-SERVICE DEGRADATION

O. Z. Student et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties of heat-resistant steels after long-term operation at thermal power plants are negatively affected by high temperature, pressure of hydrogenating corrosive media, and thermal and mechanical stresses. By analyzing the mechanical characteristics of steels in various elements of the main steam pipelines under the joint influence of in-service factors, the steels are ranked according to their sensitivity to high-temperature hydrogen degradation.

Estimation of Fatigue Crack Growth Rate in Heat-Resistant Steel by Processing of Digital Images of Fracture Surfaces

Pavlo Maruschak et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the micro- and macroscopic fatigue crack growth rates of various structural materials, showing consistency at high temperatures or high stress intensity factors. A method for quantitative assessment of fatigue striation spacing was developed and successfully tested on steel samples from a steam turbine rotor disk in a thermal power plant. The study also discussed the discrepancy between micro- and macroscopic FCG rates at low SIF values and highlighted the easier detection of fatigue striations on degraded steel surfaces.

Structural-Fractographic Features of Structural Steels After Long-Term Operation

H. Krechkovska

Summary: The metallographic and fractographic features of structural steels after long-term operation under climatic conditions reveal signs of degradation, mainly characterized by the loss of nonmetallic inclusions and embrittled elements on fracture surfaces. The fractographic indicator is shown to be more sensitive to the degradation of steels due to fracture occurring along the path of least resistance with the highest density of embrittled elements.

Restoration of the Properties of Heat-Resistant Steel after Long-Term Operation in a Steam Turbine

O. Z. Student et al.

Summary: The study reveals that by optimizing the thermal treatment mode, it is possible to restore the hardness, strength, and plasticity parameters of the steel and significantly increase its impact toughness; There is a correlation between the impact toughness of the steel and grain size, which can be used for diagnosing changes in the metal's engineering state during operation.

Fractographic Signs of Gigacycle Fatigue and Hydrogenation of Heat-Resistant Steels after Long-Term Operation

O. D. Smiyan et al.

Summary: The study found that hydrogenation affects the mechanism of low-cycle fatigue fracture of the metal, while gigacycle fatigue fractures initiate at a certain depth rather than the surface. The simultaneous influence of hydrogen and gigacycle fatigue results in atypical rounded fragments on the fracture surface, exceeding the number of controlled shutdowns.
