The booming of floating PV

Raniero Cazzaniga et al.

Summary: The global trend of electric energy production is analyzed with a forecast up to 2030 in this paper. The current status of Floating PV is discussed, taking into account data up to 2019. The growth rate for the main renewable energy sectors is analyzed and a n?ve exponential forecast up to 2030 is given based on this analysis, along with discussions on corrections to this forecast and suggested value for installed FPV plants in 2030.

Design and construction of a test bench to investigate the potential of floating PV systems

Aboubakr El Hammoumi et al.

Summary: Floating photovoltaic systems (FPVS) are a modern concept that combines existing PV systems with a floating structure to achieve higher efficiency and better land resource management. An experimental investigation comparing FPVS with overland PV systems (OPVS) showed that FPVS operates at lower temperatures, benefiting from the natural cooling effect of water, and generates up to 2.33% more daily energy than OPVS.

Problems encountered with floating photovoltaic systems under real conditions: A new FPV concept and novel solutions

Mustafa Kemal Kaymak et al.

Summary: This study based on three different floating photovoltaic systems installed on Buyukcekmece Lake in Istanbul reveals that warpage of floating photovoltaic elements due to harsh wave action is a serious problem, and existing designs might not be suitable. Comparing with previous designs, the new 30 kWp floating photovoltaic designs proved to be more robust and sustainable under severe wind and wave conditions. Therefore, floating photovoltaic systems need to be flexible as a whole, while individual units must remain stable.
