This paper investigates the stabilizing control problem of the buck-boost converter and proposes a robust nonlinear controller based on the uncertainty and disturbance estimator scheme. The controller can effectively regulate the output voltage and has good robustness to unknown inputs and parameter uncertainties.
The buck-boost converter is a non-minimum phase system that presents major challenges in the design of stabilising controllers. A robust nonlinear controller based on the uncertainty and disturbance estimator (UDE) scheme is developed to tightly regulate the output voltage of the converter, subject to unknown input voltage, load resistance, parasitics and parametric uncertainties. A simple procedure is developed that systematically select the controller gains to achieve a satisfactory output response. Using simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed controller is validated and compared to a recent robust nonlinear proportional-integral (PI)-type controller.
